Homecoming

Good Friday morning, MyBloggers-ites! (I still maintain we'd attract more bloggers if we had a different name.) Happy 11-11-11 to you! Don't you love it?

Last night, I drove to daughter Emily's for a "family" supper. Besides she and Nate and their son Johnny, my Honduras-living daughter (Valerie) was there. She's in the states for "continuing education" in optometry. Also in attendance was their mother (my ex).

So, it turned out to become sort of a mini-reunion slash family gathering slash homecoming. Whatever. Only my two California children were missing.

It's always great to see my oldest (38) daughter. We all reminisced about old times. My ex acts "normal" nowadays. We get along fine. Time has healed many wounds. I'm not so angry anymore, and have forgiven, but never forgotten, her and what she did to the family. In any case, we all had a fun time. I enjoyed watching the 3 ladies preparing the meal together, laughing and arguing, no bad memories apparent.

Earlier in the day, Nate and I visited my lawyer and the Area Plan Commission office for guidelines on "The Big Move". I can "gift" up to $52,000 in land value, tax free. We both learned a lot and are ready for the next step. I'll keep you informed (not that you care, but what's the purpose of blogging, if not to "entertain" you in family matters!).

We had a hard freeze last night, but thanks to my many trees, my garden didn't get hit too hard. I still have chard, kale, Brussels, arugala, and root crops. I brought back a bunch of spinach from Nate's farm. It's going to be a green food weekend! Get outdoors.

When I started blogging I stated that I hope people will learn from me--my mistakes, my stupidities (I know, I know that is hard to believe--me make stupid mistakes) my smart decisions, my life--actually I started to blog to replace the hand written diaries I have kept for over 60 years!!!

I work on the internet myself, and commiserate with you about the name MyBloggers. When it comes to one-word domains you don't "choose" but grab them when you can get them, then build a site on it. But I've always been pleased that Eddie made a blog site again and lured us here.. hee hee. Maybe he considered moving to another name, but it's been a little long. This 3-hour tour has gone on for years, and the Skipper and even the Professor might not be able to find the way to another name... Time strengthens the association between "blog" and "mybloggers," as far as search engines go. So if he suddenly moved this site to another domain, there'd be a large loss of search engine recognition.
It could be done, but his work would start all over again. Maybe we should embrace the name and have virtual greased-pig-catching contests, or mybloggers bake-offs, or something.

It's wonderful that so many here actually visit one another and act like a live community. MyBloggers people could do things other blog sites couldn't, like start a barter club or something.
.... and Randy, your daily news is much more interesting than mine, to me. Please don't think of stopping relating it.

Hey Mick. Not being a computer "geek", I didn't realize what it takes to start up and run a site like mybloggers. I appreciate your information. And, I like your idea to "embrace" the name! I think I'll start a contest of some sort. Use the name as you suggest. I'll give you all the credit.
Meeting fellow bloggers has been a treat. Who's next--you?!

Actually, I was thinking about how much fun it would be to go see the house moving - how many chances do we get?
comment by troutbend on Nov 12, 2011 1:13 PM ()
That's one reason I'm not going to Florida! I'm scared the whole double story house will collapse in a heap as it moves across farm fields. It's really old. Maybe I SHOULD be in Florida!

So, I wonder why your ex has changed her attitude---or maybe you are less critical and more accepting? The farm move is a big deal. It would scare me to death.

Is it the house moving that scares you, or the whole idea of converting my land to something other than corn and beans? Either way, it's all scary, especially when it concerns much of my money--and land!
As far as my ex: I suppose once I could see that SHE had changed or improved, then I became more forgiving by understanding her problems. I also appreciate her willingness and selflessness to help our daughter and family--babysitting (free) and farm/house work. She's alright--that's why I married her in the first place. Don't worry, I won't repeat history.

Yes I meant Eddie but he does seem like an EASY going guy!!! (Whew! Hopefully I talked my way out of that mistake!)
Most people read and write blogs to read about others lives and write about theirs--that's what get the most 'hits' and sites like this are just for that--heck I even read yours (and they are pretty boring!!! KIDDING!) which is more than you can say about your reading mine!!!! Actually how other people live their lives is more interesting to me than whether they love or hate a politician!

I suppose each blogger has his or her own agenda(s). I like to mix subjects up--some personal, some more "worldly". Like you (I assume), my desire is to be informative, sharing something about me. Call it egotistical, not that you would understand anything about that!!

It's always interesting! I love those big projects like house movings.

Gee, I expected some words of advice from you! You're so smart on those matters. I still think you should come to Indiana to see for yourself the situation. Seeing it "live" is so much better. It makes it all real!
reply by solitaire on Nov 12, 2011 5:26 AM ()
Yes, please keep us in the loop about the impending move, etc. I also do not like the blog title. Are we mybloggers-ites or mybloggers-uns?
comment by boots586 on Nov 11, 2011 12:29 PM ()
Randy, are you anywhere near Wolf Park? I have been there several times. Very cool place.
reply by boots586 on Nov 12, 2011 9:50 AM ()
I prefer "ites". I wonder how difficult it would be to change the title? Eddie, are you listening? I'm happy you're "on board" with us, Suzi. You're a great addition to our family. Keep posting. We're getting to know you better and, hopefully, vice versa.

Very cool that the plan is moving forward. That is exciting! Of course your blogging about family is interesting silly man!

Well, for a guy that seems to live a dull and routine life, there sure does seem to be a lot going on around me! It's all a matter of perception and relativity. One person's boredom is another's action!

One of the things about getting old is that a lot of the bitter times are blocked out--the bad don't seem as bad and we tend to want to remember the good.

I don't know about anyone else but I am interested in how the "Big Move" works out!

Wish easy would explain--in a blog--how he came to name the site 'mybloggers'!
comment by greatmartin on Nov 11, 2011 7:27 AM ()
You mean Eddie? (not "easy"!) I hate to bore people with personal news all the time (like someone else always does). But others appear interested, so what the hell.

I find details of blogger families make the most interesting posts. Good that you and your ex can share a family gathering without revisiting bad times. That's always the best way. I too think "MyBloggers" was an unappetizing choice for a blog title.
comment by tealstar on Nov 11, 2011 6:11 AM ()
Because I have met several fellow bloggers, including you, it makes it all the more personal and interesting to follow the lives of others. Perhaps we could persuade Eddie to change our site name.
