When I went out to get my mail (which is a joke), I happened to see what I first thought was a squirrel crossing the road. I quickly realized it wasn't.
No, it was a weasel! He didn't see me at first, so I got to watch it as it sniffed about in the ditch grass. To my knowledge, I've never seen a feral weasel. Neat experience.
My electric fence has kept the raccoons out of the sweet corn, not that it is any good this drought-ridden summer. Rabbits chewed off my beet tops before I put a net over them.
I water something in the garden or yard every day. It's paying off, as I have some nice tomatoes. And the watermelons are looking good! I also have a nectarine tree that is loaded. Same with persimmons--so much so, the branches are breaking. And they won't be ripe 'til November. I'm down to 3 blueberry plants of the 12 I started with. Discouraging.
I found a sack of 2011 Yukon gold potatoes "hiding" in my fruit cellar. The sprouts had just about taken over the room! So I hauled them to the garden and planted them. I do this every year--plant too many, then have extras to plant and keep the cycle of abundance going. Crazy.
That's enough rambling for the day. Have a nice weekend.
