Funny Looking Squirrel

When I went out to get my mail (which is a joke), I happened to see what I first thought was a squirrel crossing the road. I quickly realized it wasn't.

No, it was a weasel! He didn't see me at first, so I got to watch it as it sniffed about in the ditch grass. To my knowledge, I've never seen a feral weasel. Neat experience.

My electric fence has kept the raccoons out of the sweet corn, not that it is any good this drought-ridden summer. Rabbits chewed off my beet tops before I put a net over them.

I water something in the garden or yard every day. It's paying off, as I have some nice tomatoes. And the watermelons are looking good! I also have a nectarine tree that is loaded. Same with persimmons--so much so, the branches are breaking. And they won't be ripe 'til November. I'm down to 3 blueberry plants of the 12 I started with. Discouraging.

I found a sack of 2011 Yukon gold potatoes "hiding" in my fruit cellar. The sprouts had just about taken over the room! So I hauled them to the garden and planted them. I do this every year--plant too many, then have extras to plant and keep the cycle of abundance going. Crazy.

That's enough rambling for the day. Have a nice weekend.

Yukon gold are good potatoes! They will be good when ready. Would love to have seen the weasel.

I see some "weasels" every time I visit certain parts of Oklahoma City, but I digress. I, too, enjoy your rambling. Especially the bits about the garden.

Thank you. I don't want to sound repetitive or like I'm bragging. Others talk about their pets (I have none). I talk about my garden!

I see weasels once in a while, just a quick glimpse as they run across the road or path and into the grass. Saw 2 badgers on the road when I was running. Was a little worried about them, but they ran when they saw me.

I bet you look scary running down the road!

When they sprout you can plant them? I never knew that. Cool.

Heck yes. I never buy "seed" potatoes. I allow a lot of my veggies to "go to seed", harvest them, and plant the seeds the next Spring. Or, like dill and cilantro, just let them reseed themselves.

Something ate all my peaches before they got ripe. I think squirrels. They are going after my apple tree now. I have seen possums two nights in my back yard under the apple tree. It sets off the motion detector light. I lean out the window and tell it to shoo and it does. Just scurries away.

Strange--whatever ate your peaches. (I had none, yet have nectarines)
I've see possums and groundhogs around, too. I don't mind them. It's the little, hyper, "piney" squirrels that irritate me. They nest in my garage and wood shed.

We have a largish rat-like looking animal roaming the island. Ed said "It's a raccoon." No way, I said. I mean, really, it looks like a RAT. Ewww. Why is your mail a joke?

What are those rat-like mammals that roam the Louisiana coast? (the name escapes me) Maybe it's one of those. Junk mail--and I mean JUNK!

we enjoyed your rambling.

"We"? Or just you? I'm just a ramblin' man.

Could it have been a Ferret?

Hmm--could be. I didn't look a ferret up.
