Bummer, Dude

I'm getting somewhat behind in my blogging life, especially reading posts. Sorry 'bout that.
I've been busy lately. Yesterday, I babysat all day. Then, I went to a debate entitled, "Can you be good without God?"
The debate pitted Dan Barker (Freedom From Religion Foundation co-leader) against a Christian minister and a rabbi. That seemed unfair--2 against 1--but Dan held his own. The audience leaned obviously toward the religious viewpoints, but that was to be expected.
All three participants agreed one CAN be good without god, so the debate/discussion turned to other issues (which I won't go into). Nonetheless, interesting.

My post title refers to an email I received this morning indicating my Wilderness Volunteers trip to Vermont the first week of October has been cancelled. I was sort of expecting this, so it didn't come as a complete surprise. Fortunately, I had no plane reservations or any other major plans/appointments. I was going to drive my truck.
I was hoping to meet Fredo, and perhaps Hayduke Jim. And I had an itinerary to visit a variety of historic and scenic places. But, best laid plans......
Maybe next year.
Now, on to Plan B, whatever that might entail.

Comments:

The flooding up there was terrible, at least throughout northern PA and NY. All of the rivers and lakes flooded out even further north than that.

From the photos I've seen, it's worse than I imagined. I'll just have to alter my plans and do something else.

Too sad.

This is too bad.

Crumbs in the keyboard: Turn it upside down and shake it vigorously, then use the corner of a Post-It note to poke down between the keys, running it between the columns and rows. It's flexible enough not to rip anything but strong enough to herd the dirt to the end when you can scoop a lot of it out. Don't use a paperclip: too stiff.

Big space between your two sentences! Reason? Maybe I'll take a trip to Kansas!

Was it called off because of the flooding, or not enough people signed up? Kind of a let-down even if you half expected it to be canceled.

The flooding. There were 5 on the waiting list. Other trips at the same time have openings, but I don't feel like driving back out to Utah or Ariz. Once a year is enough. I'm undecided on what, if anything, to do.

I think you should go anyway or at the very least have *some* sort of adventure. But I've never thought of you as a pessimist...

I'm toying with some ideas--perhaps a trip up into N. Michigan. And yes, sometimes I can be pessimistic--the dark side of being realistic.

Now that you're free, I sort of envision you hiking the Appalachian Trail starting in Maine and going south.... Now wouldn't that be a terrific fall adventure?

I've done several sections of the Ap Trail. It's nice, but not my cup of tea. I like the wide open spaces. I appreciate the suggestion.

Not this year--hopefully next. I have other ideas in mind.

What's it going to take for me to make you turn from a complainer (bummer, trip canceled though I expected it, etc.,) to an optimist (I was right about the trip being canceled, but since I put that time aside why don't I go and visit the guy anyway, I didn't have time to read boring blogs as I was too busy living life, etc.)
comment by greatmartin on Sept 15, 2011 7:38 AM ()
Now, now. Give me a little time to think about all this.
