The Roof over My Head

Today, my husband and I are signing the contract for the roof of our home and garage to be torn off and re-shingled.

This has been a long LONG time coming.

When we first moved in this house 11 years ago, the roof on the back side of the house was in horrible shape and needed immediate attention. My husband's brother owns his own roofing company and so he, my husband's other brother and my husband spent a weekend repairing and re-shingling that part of the roof.

As time has gone on, now the roof on the front side of the house needs to be replaced. And the garage roof is just plain ugly and we'd like it replaced to match the house. (It is a detached garage) BUT, my husbands brother who owns the roofing company is so super busy in his own area (he doesn't live close to us) that he wasn't able to come and do the job. AND my husband and I kept discovering as we'd have company's out to give us an estimate, that the company's would not JUST do the front of the house. It had to be the whole house or nothing. We finally found a company who is going to only do the parts of the roof that need to get done. They are going to match the shingles to the back 1/2 of the house AND they are going to do a complete tear off and re-do on the garage for $5,500.00.

This roof thing has been weighing on my husband for such a long time and I can see the relief that he feels now that it is going to be fixed before this winter.

It'll be so nice to have this done. The garage and house will match/coordinate nicely which will add to the value of our home.

So I'm happy about this!

It will be nice to have that all finished. I know it is a pain during the process.

My brother owns a "large" construction company. I don't know how far he travels, but he does alot of work in the "Brighton" area (closer to you). He's a "self made man. Three years younger then me, and has every "toy a man could want"... lol. He's good at what he does, that's for sure. If for some reason, this don't work out.. I can ask him. I am certain he knows "who is good, and who is not" (in your area). He is a "residential framing contractor" but works with many "roofers" and such.. Basically.. he'd more likely tell who to "contact"..

Later.. Gary

With roofs, it's a "pay me now, or pay me later" thing. Do it now, and you won't have to replace the sub-roofing also. My brother waited. Finally the sub-roofing deteriorated also, and he ended up paying over $215000 for a new roof!

I too am in need of some roof repair. I was going to get it done last spring, however I was involved in a car accident and had to buy a new car.
That put the roof off for awhile.
I look at it every day when I come home from work and sigh...lol
I am glad you are getting yours done!! Hope I'm next.
