My 22 year old daughter recently took a new position, as a certified medical technician, in the Emergency room at the hospital she's worked at for over 2 years. At this new job, she sees and deals with much more trauma than she did on the floor of her last position.
She called me crying last night after her shift and said tearfully "Mom,... I just called to tell you I love you."
I said "Honey what's wrong?"
She then proceeded to tell me about the rough day she had in the emergency room. An 11 year old boy had been shot in the chest. She and "the team" working on this boy tried for over an hour to save this lil' guys life, but sadly, he died.
She has "lost" other patients in the past, but this was the first child and she was just so overwhelmed with grief.
She has saved one persons life, literally bringing them back from the dead, via CPR since she took on the emergency room. I'll never forget how excited she was when she called me to share this joyful news. But she also knows that death is a part of her job. I think it hurts 10 times more when it's the senseless death of a child.
Bless her heart that she took the time to call me and say those important words.
Because life is short.
Life is fragile.
And sometimes life doesn't make sense, nor is it fair.
Tell those closest to you how much you love them today!
