He thought of what he needed
Of what would get him by
Then he thought of all he wanted
Wanted before he was to die.
He listed one by one
Items he did own
He wanted solitude
But did not want to be alone.
He wanted to travel to China
Before he was to die
But he did not like water
And he was scared to fly.
Worried he watched his life
Slipping through his hands
He wanted life to slow down
Because dammit..he had plans.
He would sit on his front porch
And write on a yellow pad
Some days he had nothing written
He was just too sad.
Other days he couldn't stop
He had so much to say
It seemed so unfair
Just not enough hours in the day.
He wanted love
Spiritually and physically.
Not one without the other
For what good would that be.
He wanted to hold her
Feel every breath she did take
And in the morning
Know that it was no mistake.
He wanted to watch the sunset
Then the sunrise
And he wanted, needed
To see it through her eyes.
Maybe he would have that
And possibly even more
For thats what wishes
And dreams are for.
