The Pink Ribbon

The Pink Ribbon
November 4, 2007 / by redwolftimes / Edit Post
She lay in that hospital bed
In the dark of the night
Fearing she's lost the battle
But not giving up without a fight.
She watched her sisters
Before her they went away
Now she watches her life pass by
Hour by hour, day by day.
Soon her time would be over
She never would admit it, but she knew
Her heart was filled with sadness
For there was much she wanted to do.
She wanted to climb a mountain
Just to reach out and touch the sky
To smell the air of an Autumn morn
Maybe watch an eagle fly.
She wanted to run naked
Through a meadow of tall grass
Now it was all but too late
That time had pass.
The first light of morning
Streamed across the hospital floor
A life once lived here
Not now, not any more.
She lay in the casket
On that cold, rainy day
Sad people passed by
Not knowing what to say.
For though she left too soon
Her memory will live on
Also to be remembered
Upon her dress was a pink ribbon.

Those that came over from Blogster may recognize this piece of poetry, I wrote it last year. It was about the struggles of those who are fighting the battle of breast cancer, and the families and friends that are affected. I am repeating it for it seems as relevant today as when I wrote it.
