Oldest granddaughter, "ERS", has been in Music/Drama camp for the past two weeks at her school. She is a "drama queen" and has been for most of her 11 1/2 years. She has found her niche. At the conclusion of the camp we were invited to enjoy an afternoon production of "101 Dalmations". We were greeted at the door by smartly dressed young people who handed out the playbills and thanked you politely for attending.
The playbill was decorated by the students and I immediately recognized ERS's artwork. Her drawings were chosen for the inside back page. Dogs, dogs and more dogs...and Cruella Deville!
Inside the playbill each actor received a small biography in addition to telling your their part.
"ERS (Rex the boxer) returns to the stage after a stellar performance as The Clock in an earlier production of "Beauty and the Beast". She has two cats, two sisters and loves all animals with the cheetah being her favorite. She has plans to continue her education by entering Middle School this Fall."
I was impressed.
Then the play started. It was wonderfully planned and each performer did quite well. No lines were missed. Each song was belted out like a professional! As I watched ERS prancing around the stage, singing and enjoying every aspect of the play...I was moved to tears. I could look back in time and see her mother. What a tallent for drama and inborn need to perform. Maybe one day I will travel to Broadway and see ERS as she performs in a yet to be written play. It could happen. She plans on becoming a vet and care for all sick animals. She may take a side trip to the stage. Who knows. With her tallent and determination she can become whatever she desires.
All I know is that on a lovely Friday afternoon I watched as my granddaughter performed and enjoyed every minute of it. She took her bows, accepted her flowers as her smile lit up the whole stage.
Each child was a star. Each child had been given "top billing". The theater was full of beaming family members and shouts of "wonderful", "marvelous", and "way to go"!
Our children need to have an outlet for energy. Our children need to have supportive teachers and family members. I'm thankful for this school and the extras that they provide for each student.
Ms Scarlett...hand me my fan, it's hot down South!
I have no doubt, that whatever your ERS decides to accomplish in life, she will do so with much cheering and support from her Granny [or whatever she calls you]…unlike my BadGranny who thought I would always be a “wicked little girlâ€â€¦
