It seemed like a good idea at the time. Hubby and I were sitting on the deck admiring the various flowers blooming, watching the birds and hoping Lucy wouldn't see the bunny sitting under the apple tree. Hubby says innocently to me, "What do you think about adding a rock wall between the end of the deck and the edge of the rose bed?". WOW! I could see it in my mind's eye! A lovely rock wall, mulch around the various plants within its border...sigh.
We got the truck and went to buy the rocks. River rocks. Large, irregularly shaped stones that were dug out of either the Amazon or the Nile...I'm not sure which. I thought of a small container of rocks nestled in the bed of the truck waiting for some Garden Fairy to place them in a beautiful arrangement. I was wrong.
A ton of rocks. 2000 lb. ONE TON. Yep, they put them on the bed of the truck. It was on a wooden pallet surrounded by pagewire. We brought home the lovely wall....in pieces.
We drew a path, dug a little trench and began to build our wall. One rock at a time. I had rivlets of sweat running in places I didn't know I could sweat! Not a dry thread on my body. My hair hung in limp strands. I looked like Medussa after a really bad day. I did have the good sense to wear gloves.
If someone asks you if you can move a ton of rocks, the answer is "YES". One rock at a time. If someone asks you to do it for them, the answer is a resounding NO!
It does look pretty. If I ever figure out how to post a picture, you'll see. The hasta, purple stuff, snapdragons, and angel's trumpets all are just lovely. The mulch gives the weeds a harder time to grow. It was worth the work.
Lesson here: you can move a mountain if you do it a little at a time. I guess that applies to many aspects of our life. Some things look like that mountain of rocks in the back of the Chevy truck. No rhyme or reason. Then one by one, they are removed and placed in order and become something that makes sense. Hmmm. I'll try to bring back that physical reminder the next time I come upon a mental mountain! One rock at a time...
Mz Scarlett...needing that iced sweet tea about now. Has anyone seen my fan? Where are those Summer breezes when you need one?
