An Update

So I have to start with a vent. I do not, personally, know how the hell the human population has survived this long. What do I mean? I mean breastfeeding. Babies eating for survival. I have encountered SO MANY FREAKING ISSUES with this process! I haven't given up yet, but man, the next thing - I just might. I don't like the "ingredients" of formula, although we do need to supplement my breast milk at times since I have had so many issues it has effected supply. Sorry boys if this is TMI but I need to vent! The latest issue is thrush which can cause (EVEN MORE) nipple pain while feeding. Fantastic! At least we have the meds now to hopefully cure this. Again, no idea how the human population has thrived for this long. If not for formula to give the breastesess a wee break, baby girl might have starved. Sigh.

Ok! Next fun thing, she turned one month! Crazy, isn't it? I am looking forward to the time when she can smile at me on purpose (aka without gas) and coo. Fun fun.

Last night Dad took the night off and slept in a different room (Oooooh to be a Dad!!!!) while I dealt with the little chick. She was good til her 4am feeding, she didn't want to go back to sleep after that, so she didn't and she wanted me to keep her company apparently. Ha. She fell back to sleep at about 8am, after I had given up the thought of getting a few more Z's. It's funny how she knows these things... it's like a plot. If I have warm food to eat, she's unhappy. If I am pumping breast milk, she's unhappy. When I am busy and not wanting to tend to her, she needs tending too. They are miraculous little creatures that way I am learning!

Here are a few pics. We took this one last night for her one month anniversary:

Here is her waiting at her one month check up:

And here is Kraymer all cuddled up with me while I tried to take an afternoon nap:

Speaking of my original baby boy, he has tested positive for Ehrlichiosis, which is caused by the brown (dog) tick. Yikes. A brief clip on it I found online:

***
"Signs and Symptoms of Ehrlichiosis
The symptoms and severity of illness seen with ehrlichiosis depends on the species of Ehrlichia involved and the immune response of the dog. Generally, Erlichia canis appears to produce the most severe illness, and infections tend to progress through various stages.

The acute phase occurs within the first few weeks of being infected and is rarely fatal. Recovery can occur, or the dog can enter a "subclinical phase" which can last for years, where there are no symptoms. Some dogs, but not all, eventually progress to the chronic phase, where very severe illness can develop. However, in practice is is difficult to distinguish these phases."
***

We are hoping we caught it early enough where it won't cause any noticeable problems for him... Sucks though! I don't want him to be hurting any more than what old age does to us!

Anywho - happy Monday peeps!

Breast feeding is great as long as it suits you and your baby. Not everyone is able to have supply meet demand etc. Mastitis was my big issue. My first born was tiny and my boobs were bigger than his head and my initial milk production was far greater than demand for a few weeks until a feeding pattern was established. I often had hot, tender, engorged breasts and was always on the look out for Savoy cabbage leaves! Not very attractive to have a green leaf sticking outta your bra but what relief it did bring.

Sorry about the pain and breast feeding problems. Hang in there!
Skylar is so cute. What color eyes does she have?

Right now they are a gray color - I'm hoping they stay but they have a year to decide I've heard...

The tunnel is endless! Persist if you can but as long as she gets the first
breast milk she will be fine. I would love to snuggle her and rock her for you when you are tired.

She got the colostrum for the most part... that was when she "ripped my nipples to shreds" according to one lactation consultant. Good times.

Happy one month to you all! And best wishes to Kraymer for an easy recovery from that tick bite.

Ticks are the devil. But in good news, according to his Blood work, he is doing ok at the moment.

that month just zipped by! dakota never did get the hang of breast feeding. I tried and tried and even had a 'coach' come out to the house to help me!
I hope kraymer will be ok, that you caught it early. how do the dogs like miss skylar?

You'll get the hang of it. And it takes a village... you would have found another mother to breastfeed your baby if you lived years and years in the past. In the meantime, hope the Kraymer-head will be a-okay!
