Random Question

when everything is going smoothly in your life - according to the view from the outside from others - but you aren't happy... and can't seem to find happy... even though all indications point that you should be happy... Is it a choice to not be happy even though you know you should be? Randy's post has sparked this and I thought I would ask my near and dear blog pals for their sage advice... so please, let me know your thoughts on it.

Essentially the question is, are your moods a choice?

No easy answer. Happiness can be a choice- but not always. Sometimes, there is an underlying mood disturbance. I have been downright miserable lately. You know, I noticed a few people here on MyBloggers are low at the same time. I don't know that this means anything- just an observation.

and I mean women living together ... not women in general!

maybe blogging is like women on their periods... I hope we all get out of our funk soon...

"J.D. Salinger once said "The fact is always obvious much too late, but the most singular difference between happiness and joy is that happiness is a solid and joy a liquid.""

Happiness (about things and situations) has little meaning without an underlying joy (of living, of being). Oddly enough, the answers have all (or mostly) been used in songs. The one about wanting what you have instead of having what you want comes to mind. Unfortunately, there is no short answer, it's like learning to play the piano..... practice, practice, practice.

There was a time in my life when I felt is this all there is just like the
song that was popular in the sixties. Outwardly, I should have been
happy. What I needed was to focus on other people and find the kind of
work that made me happy. I belonged in a helping profession and when
that worked for me, I was happy nearly all of the time. You have to love
yourself before you can give yourself away. Talk to your girlfriends about
your needs, get a manicure or a massage and take R. dancing.

thinking about others is a good method...

Good question. Good replies. Now, all we need is our resident "expert", Teal. My answer is, we'll never understand the workings of the brain.

I would have to concur with you sir!

Once in awhile things can get out of whack and person might need some antidepressants to get their brain chemistry straightened out, so that, but I think we can train ourselves to react to what life brings us in a generally positive or generally negative manner. Therefore I think we can choose our mood. We've all met people who feel life has given them a raw deal and are just looking for the down side of everything, and others have many challenges but manage not to brood about it.

yeah, that's true...

Sorry, I can't answer this question because when I'm not happy, everybody knows I'm not happy.

I like it.

No, your mood comes from deep inside. You should probably have a girls night with wine so you can talk it out with your nearest and dearest girlfriends - like Fredo said.
And then it's time to indulge in something that makes you completely happy. Shake things up. Your life *is* great but it needs a little spice.
Maybe it's time to volunteer at a doggie shelter again. Or get a 90 min massage. Kick some butt at trivia. A romantic dinner for two.
K-dawg, mostly just know that you are loved.

Thank you! I miss you.

My dearest. I think that only we have control over our happiness. Take for instance some people who are abused, some choose to live in fear and not live their lives. However, others choose to overcome this abuse, and either speak out or embrace their own happiness. I think too, that a person can't make us happy cause we have to take ownership of it. As a fellow worrier and someone who can get down at times, I hear ya and feel your pain. It's a dilemma, is life easier when you're happier? :)

What is you want to know. Are you happy or not.
We have many choices in life.Yes,we do have our mood, but worked it out.
Not sure about the others as for me.I am happy most of the time.
If I am cranky or moody then will find solace.
For me meditation is the best.
Take time to do this.
Think of all the happy time you had in your childhood.
Think of the ocean, lake, bird and wonderful nature out there.
The sounds of music,Of course I get mad,but then this is something that you have to controlled or making choices.
If you are not happy, then talk it over and tell why you feel this way.
This what happens to a lot of people. They do not talk about how they are feeling, they want to know and hopefully to make you feel happy.
An old Judy Garland song"Forget your trouble and Get Happy.
I will not change you for this.Bono,Bono oh!all right.
You will get more comments on this.Have not read Randy over and I guess that will scoot over to see what is he doing.
