My Insurance is a J O K E

I am so angry right now.

Men, ya might not want to read on cuz I am mad and I am not holding back on the female issues I am having at the moment.

That said.

I have been having issues with my bc pill since my insurance only covers 3 instances of brand name, then you have to go generic. This was fine by me since it would save me money overall. Well... ya freakin get what you pay for.

I have been bleeding for 2 full weeks, and I started the generic crap a month and a half ago. It's BS. It's like a never ending period and I am pissed off about ruining underwear and blowing through tampons (WHICH ARE $8 a BOX mofo's!) and I am not even due for freakin flo til this weekend. GREAT! Not to mention the tummy issues and cramping - which is not normal for me anyways!

So I called my doc and said please call in the brand name for me cuz this generic is crap and it's not working for me. The doc obliged. Bless her soul.

SOOOOO tonight I found out that my fabulous place of employment apparently will only cover generic. I can pay full price for the brand name that WORKS for me (more than double what it would be under co-pay) but I find that to be BS. Complete and total BS. Not to mention that I have to order this shit by mail (after the first three instances) as well. I figured out that game a month and a half ago - wasn't happy but whatever. Gotta do what ya gotta do, right? Bastids.

I am going to try to fight the power and appeal this BS but it's going to take some action by the doc, which I hope they are willing to do.

Meanwhile, I am pissed off about it and I am truly sick of all this crap. ANNOYING! I was fine til tonight when I found out about MY EMPLOYER enforcing this crap rule, even when the doc calls in a specific order - aka NO GENERIC.

Gripe ended. For now. Night night.

I've got the same problems with my allegy meds. I get allegies so bad that they create excrusiating migraine headaches that literally cause me to go blind for five or ten minutes at a time.
The generics do about as much good as lemon drops. Nothing.

Most insurances don't pay for brand names when generics are available. Mine costs $70 for a three month supply and it's a brand name.

This is crap...sounds more like a scam then insurance coverage...

I do hear yer pain. Several years ago my insurance wouldn't cover BC pills AT ALL and we had to pay full price for the bastids for several years. Then an odd thing happened. We found out that the damn things were causing my wife's migraine headaches. So she quit taking them and we went back to the old stand-by of using condoms... Personally I think that messing with hormones is not a good thing to do anyway. Believe it or not her "monthly" is quicker and less painfull (cramping and all that) than it used to be. And no paying for migraine meds either!

You could try the depo shot. Once your on that, your periods pretty much stop. Saving you the cost for pamprin, tampons and alcohol

If you go to England, you can get your BC for free.
Um, I'm still paying off $1K from an MRI from almost two years ago ... and my most recent surgical procedure was $6K and the insurance doesn't want to pay for it.

Like troutbend wrote, your doc should be able to push it through by documenting that the generic doesn't work (contraindicated) for you

It is bad for your health to lose that much blood. While you are having this fight with the Insurance company, splurge on the non generic pill. Also get a pelvic exam, it might be something other than the pill causing the excessive bleeding. Take care!!!

my daughter goes to the 'free' clinic for hers. she pays a nominal charge for her pills there. when I was getting a prescription for sleeping pills, my doc had to fill out this form for the insurance company saying I needed them long term. what right does an insurance company have to override what the doctor says??

I hope all this settles down for you soon as there is nothing worse than female issues that never end! As much as we moan about the NHS here it has been good to me. What with the kids probs and the ambulances that we have needed and the fact I can get bread and other wheat free products for my daughter on free prescription. Plus I also get my pill foc as I guess the government recon that arming us with contraception for free will cost them less than an unwanted pregnancy in the long run. Anyway fell better soon and if I don't get a chance to pop by later, Happy Birthday for Wednesday.

The is awful--another example of insurance companies crapping on the people who hold their policies. I am so sorry, but you sure don't want to continue on the generic brand with all the problems that you are having. What a bummer!

I hear ya, sistah! Fight the system!

When my doctor makes me buy mine it's $58 for 28 days. Because I'm on a new one she has lots of free packs but she won't let me have a whole year's worth. It's the only way I can afford BC pills. Especially since they don't have a generic. Why does BC cost so much?!!!

It really is a hassle and insurance companies have these policies that seem designed to make you miserable to save a few bucks. It would seem that your doctor might be able to convince them that the generic is not acceptable from a clinical perspective. Hope it works out eventually.

Can't you get the non-generic and just pay the difference?
