So I went to Gene Baur's book signing of his new book "Farm Sanctuary" last night with R.
It was really great. I adore Gene and the fact that he has done everything I SHOULD have done, or want to do, aka leaving corporate America in the dust, against everyone's wishes, and following the dream of helping those less forturnate (in this case, obviously, farm animals.)
The man has made a HUGE difference in raising awareness, getting laws passed, and saving animals left for dead.
Last night he almost started crying when he was talking about Opie, a day old calf he saved at Lancaster stockyards (which are now CLOSED thanks to him!) Opie was left for dead by the workers since he wasn't strong enough yet to thrive on his own (or even stand), having been seperated from his mother earlier that day. Apparently he still had afterbirth on him.
REGARDLESS, Opie lived out his life on the Farm Sanctuary and died last week. Gene was teary and said he usually tells a whole story about Opie, but he just wasn't up to it. It was really quite moving.
If you want to see if he's coming near you, please check out this site
It is worthwhile and really moving...
In other news, Kraymer is doing well. The wound is still oozing but it's not bad. I actually am going to leave the wrap off for awhile today to see if it dries itself out at all.
R left for a business trip. :0( We will miss him but it's also a great opportunity for me to catch up on my lifetime tv watching... haha
Happy Tuesday everyone!
