All About Kids

First the big news, our own Gillitime has given birth to a beautiful baby girl! Stop by and congratulate the new mom! Brings back lots of memories for me. Hard to believe my little baby is now 7 years old! Where has the time gone?
I got a new book, Raising Your Spirited Child. It is a real eye opener for me and it describes Kota  perfectly.
'The spirited child-often called "difficult" or "strong-willed"- can easily overwhelm parents, leaving them feeling frustrated and inadequate. Spirited kids are, in face, simply "more" - by temperament, they are more intense, sensitive, perceptive, persistant, and uncomfortable with change than the average child.'
So I am really getting an education reading this book. It talks about how kids are labeled and we really need to stop doing that. Instead it says to use positive labels. Like instead of calling him stubborn, say he is very persistant.
I talked to daughter last night, she is looking into getting her own apartment. I am so proud of her! And I can't wait to make her a gift basket for her new place! The place she is looking at bases your rent on your income so I really hope she can get in there. She did great this past semester at college, like I knew she would. She just amazes me each day.
I think I better go read my book as kota is hammering away here. He has an old skateboard he took the wheels off. Not sure what he is making but the hammering is intense. LOL

This book sounds very interesting I should get this because I believe I am raising 7 very highly 'spirited' children, I always said they'd been here before Congrats on the baby news- all happy news, great post

a lot of times high spirited, active, strong willed kids are labeled and then drugged because they don't fit into someone's pigeon hole. its a low down dirty shame.

Congrats on the baby!
That book is really popular and is supposed to be very helpful. I am glad you came across it.

I am glad you found that book! Sounds insightful.
I lived in low income housing when I first moved down here - it was GREAT! If only I could have held on to it I would still be paying the same low price!

Isn't it wonderful when something that started out as negative turns into something positive? The little lessons hidden in our struggles...

One of the best books I ever read was called "How to Behave so your Children will too" and it changed the way I raised my children. Helped so much with many of the temper tantrums they threw.

I don't like negative labels for our kids either. "They" wanted to test all three of my kids for ADD because all of my kids are "spirited"... I wouldn't let them because I knew "they" were incorrect. Sometimes "they're" way too quick to try to self-diagnose kids.
