Getting My Dog Fix Wherever I Can

We are not allowed to have pets at the house we are renting. It is really killing me! So I get my fix from friends and family. My niece Stacy has this wonderful chocolate lab, I call him the moose because he is so big. But he is so gentle and very well trained. I played with him on Christmas day at my sister's house. My daughter Tami has a little dog and I spoil him like I would a grandchild. One of my friends has a pit bull mix, that dog needs some serious training but still a loveable dog. Our other friends have a pomeranian named ling ling because he does look like a panda with his coloring. It has always been a dream of mine to work with dogs in some capacity. That is why I am so proud of Kristy for following her dreams!
Well I was playing around on the internet last night and found a no kill shelter near me. They need volunteers for dog walking and socializing. Oh my! This is perfect! While I am out of work and Kota is in school, I can offer my time to some wonderful dogs who need rehabilitating! I have always had this kinship to dogs. My hubby would sometimes get mad at me for walking up to a stray dog and befriending it. I have no fear of dogs,no matter their size. But I can tell if a dog is too fearful for me to approach. One of our neighbors down the street had several pitbulls. They were recently taken from him for abuse. But one day one of his dogs escaped and came down here. A beautiful white pit bull. But I could tell the dog was not right. First he was very skinny, and very fearful. All I did was put out some water for him and left him alone.

So I am looking forward to contacting this shelter and volunteering for them. They foster alot of their dogs but I can't even do that! I have thought of writing a letter to our landlord and explaining why I need a cat. LOL I wouldn't get a dog, they need lots of time and hopefully I will be returning to work. But I miss having a cat around. The landlord is actually a friend of my hubby's and I keep telling hubby to ask him about a cat!

Saturday we went out looking at cars. Just to get an idea because my car is on its last breath. I test drove a kia soul and fell in love with it. We had the salesman run our application through. Now remember we lost our house 3 years ago to foreclosure so our credit is in the tank. He came back and said our payments would be $480 a month! ACK! This was for a brand new car though. I am thinking we could afford one that is one or two years old.

Still waiting to hear about that job! The job was posted on their website and I immediately applied and sent an email to my old boss. It is a state job so of course nothing would get done during the holidays. Waiting, waiting, waiting!

Still no contact with stepson or his wife. He had called hubby one day and said he needed to pick up some of his stuff here. Hubby told him he needs to apologize to me before he can step foot in our house. His son said I would need to apologize also. Hubby told him, FOR WHAT!! I had done nothing wrong other than to tell them to not contact me at all.

It's a new year and I am filled with hope. My little family is doing just fine, Kota had a good Christmas but is not looking forward to going back to school tomorrow. Hubby is hoping for colder weather so he can get some overtime. He is a service technician for a propane company. I am looking forward to a healthier and more prosperous year!

If you check spca.org for your area the too have pet handler volunteers and kitty huggers too. I know you have to take their course to work with the dogs, but not the kittys :) I feel your pain. Good Luck You can play with the virtual kitty on my blog if you want!! She is fun :)

Holly and Bevan, who can easily afford to buy new cars, always buy used with low mileage because they can save so much money.

that is what i am researching now, used cars. just hard to get our payments where we want them and have a dependable car.

I hope the job works out. Those things always take time, and I don't know about your state, but my state has a lot of interviews and testing for every position, but you'll sail through.

they finally posted the job on their website on tuesday. I applied and sent my resume as well. the last time I worked there I went in through a temp agency and then it took the college 4 months to make me permanent! trying to be patient.

I am so happy that you will be working with animals. They have a healing touch. I hope your step son sees the light.

after talking to the lady earlier this week, i found out I would have to travel almost an hour to their other facility. that just isn't feasible with me not working. starting to feel like the world is against me any time I try to do something.

Don't you wish all news was good news? Sorry about the stepson mess. Good luck on the job.

if all news was good, we wouldn't appreciate it. the stepson mess will work out one way or another. I think I need to focus on my own goals for a change, instead of everyone else's.

I know it's hard especially apologizing for something that is not your fault but their is a granddaughter involved who will poison her against you unless she gets to know you even if it is only now and then.

I am so excited about this! I have been wanting to get some training in rehabilitating dogs and maybe this will be a foot in the door for that eventually.

I love the idea of volunteering to help out the puppies who need it! I actually was contacted yesterday from a rescue that needs someone to do home checks - I said I was in! I am waiting to hear some more details. Yay us!
Good luck with the job - and the car!

well I already got a call about volunteering. she said their volunteers have really dropped off. it would be a 45 minute drive for me, that's the bad thing. with my car being contrary right now. the lady was so excited I was interested! She said they currently have 10 dog and if I even spent 5 minutes per dog that would be a help. Hah! she doesn't know me. I will hang out there all day!

Don't be like me--unforgiving!!! Right or wrong make it right with your son.

Martin it is such a difficult situation. I have been his doormat for a very long time. I have apologized to both him and his wife for things I have said in the past. My son is not one for accepting responsibility for his actions and never apologizes for anything. He believes it is his way or no way. I have been cussed out by him and his wife and told I am not accommodating enough to both of them. At one point I did say to my stepson, I am sorry if I did not kiss your wife's ass properly! In their eyes I do nothing right and everything is always my fault. I admit when I am wrong and apologize when I feel I have done something wrong. But it's time for him to grow up and realize that he cannot treat me any way he feels like and expect me to just take the abuse. I can count on my hands the times I have been allowed to see my granddaughter. I have never been anything but nice to his wife but it was not good enough for them. I could go on and on about this situation. All I have asked for is an apology for the way they spoke to me.

Sending you cheer and blessings and hope for a positive new year! What a wonderful thing to do to work at the shelter. Volunteering doing what you love often leads to paid employment. It has for me time after time. All the best to you and your loved ones!
