Country Neighbors

There are many reasons I like living out in the country. The quietness, the wildlife, being able to go for a walk without fearing for my life. But the big reason is country neighbors. Last evening I was outside with Kota. He loves playing in the tilled up garden. The guy who lives behind us came walking over. He wanted to know if my hubby could till up a garden for him. He doesn't have a tiller and can't afford to either buy one or rent one. I told him that was no problem at all, that in fact we were borrowing the tiller from my mom. We proceeded to talk for another hour. He is seriously funny. We talked about the people next to him. They are the ones with the kids who had a run in with Kota. He said he has had similar problems with her. Hubby got home while we were talking and they just started talking like old friends. When we have let our grass get too high, he has come over with his riding mower to help us. This is how country folk are. They see a need and they just come over to help. And if they see something you can help them with, they ask.
I am envisioning a neighborhood barbecue this summer. Wouldn't that be a blast? Since our yards all connect we could just wander from yard to yard. I have never really talked to this neighbor before and I am glad he came over last night.
I have been wanting neighbors like this since I bought my house in 1995. This is what country living is all about.

Wow, you are blessed to live in the country and have such great neighbors. It sounds like such a cool place to live, where people actually talk to their neighbors and have a real community feeling to it.

City living ain't bad either--you will have to come down and visit our little community where we have bbq's on the point over looking the bay and we help each other in a multitude of ways.
I love the country--for 2-3 days then I NEED the city lights and energy!

That's awesome! It's funny how country neighbours can get to know one other despite their large plots of land between them, but I barely know anyone who shares my apartment building. It reminds me of a quote I heard in the movie I watched last night, "13 Conversations About One thing"... The character said something like, "We live in cities crowded with people who are all trying hard not to look at one another." Sad but true.

I love living out in the country.
I can run naked, talk to the trees, not as quiet as yours.
Course have to watch out for my neighbor not to turn me in.

That sounds nice. It really does!

Last night I got the mail and had my neighbors mail mixed in with mine. I went to the next building over to hand deliver it, dude opened the door a smidge, I said what I was there for, he took the mail and said a quick thanks, and shut the door.
Ah, city living...

country people are friendly, that's fer sure. I still can't get used to the fact that people will just wave at you for no reason as you drive by. they don't do that in New York.

reguards
yer still taken aback by friendliness pal

I'm so glad that you have friendly neighbors that you like! I'm jealous... we live in the country, too, but we only know a few of our neighbors and it took literally years before they would introduce themselves. Maybe it's just my neck of the woods, but the country folk out here are very, very private. The truly strange thing is that when I lived in Big City, I knew every one of my neighbors and had a great community. Thankfully, the neighbors we *do* know now are really good people.Wow..that was a long comment.
