Wisteria

I love the bloom of it in the spring. I know that it is
supposed to be terribly invasive but I want some anyway.
I saw my across the street neighbor this afternoon and
he said that he was going to dig his up. He is obsseively
tidy. He offered me all the roots that I wanted. I will
plant them in the backyard and hope they all come up. I
need a privacy screen from the ugly above ground pool next
door. I like the people but do not like their pool because not only is it ugly and their grand children very loud, but
The mosquitos attack us all summer.

I have chili simmering in the crock pot. This means that
I can get right to Boston Legal after supper. I slept until
9:30 this morning and it really helped. I got a lot more
done today. Ted let me sleep but Rex awakened me by licking
my face. I think he is checking to see if we are ok when
he does this.

I think it is so pretty on a fence and I love the color.

Darn! I read this and Googled wisteria looking for a variety that grew in Florida and never commented on your post! I am such an airhead. I wish lilac grew down here. I LOVE French lilacs in the spring, but neither will grow here.

I have lilacs and I am surprised that wisteria won't grow in Florida.

I like vines like wisteria that grow and spread along fences. The chili sounds like the perfect meal for this time of year.

I am so hoping it will grow. It has been so dry here that I fear for all
my plants.

Best of luck on the Wisteria. Beautiful plant with a beautiful name.

We had crock pot chili a few nights ago. Reading your post made me wish I had some left over.

Chili is really comforting on a cold night. The only good thing about
winter is being able to be cozy and warm and well fed with lots of books to read.

I too am a wisteria lover. Such a beautiful grapelike bloom and the winter woody stems interlacing over and through a structure is most picturesque. I had one all over my front fence when I lived in Aussie. I would only trim it back when the postman left a note in my mailbox about doing so. Seems he’d get tired of being whipped in the face as he rode his mail bike up along it to our box.

I love the lavenders and purples. Do you miss your garden?

Wisteria--is that anything like hysteria? I, too, have chili simmering--in my freezer. Sounds good. I did ravioli last night (with Brussels and a sweet potato, slaw and apple salad).

No, it is just a lavish purple bloom shaped like grapes. It just blooms once a year but it is well worth it.

Our wooded lot next to my house is overcome with Wisteria in the spring. When you walk out my front door that is all you can smell....it is just spectacular.

I bet it is beautiful. It just doesn't last long enough.

I usually like spreading plants. I don't know what wisteria looks like. I'll look it up. The pool breeds mosquitoes? Don't they keep it chemically treated? eww.
comment by tealstar on Dec 9, 2010 6:21 PM ()
Evidently not. I have a beautiful veranda that you can hardly sit on for
the damned mosquitos evem drenched in off.

I have heard of Wisteria and know it is scented - I wouldn't recognize it though. I think I will try to find some myself, I am going to need a good plant to form a kind of screen
Ooops, got to make a coffee, he has just returned from walking Chloe

I don't know how it smells. It was a joy to look across the street and see
it bloom.

When I think of wisteria I'm reminded of a friend buying a set of stencils so she could paint wisteria in bloom on her bedroom walls. I don't think we ever had it in Colorado, probably the winters are too cold. Good luck with yours. There's a chance your yard will be just hospitable enough for it to grow and bloom but just hostile enough that it doesn't get out of hand.

Let's hope! I don't know why he can't tolerate it for the spring time
beauty but as I said, he is determined to have a plain lawn. I'll bet he cuts down the big trees.

hehe Rex is saying hi! Time to wake up! I love him. Good luck with planting!
