Winter Winds

Winter is certainly coming too soon for me. I got up to
warmth and a threatening deep blue sky and by 8:30 it had
begun to drizzle and was cold.

Yesterday, Ted's brother, David and his wife, Nova came to
help with some winter chores. David climbed into the attic
and wrapped some pipes on the hot water heater. They stayed
for a lunch of lasagna, roasted vegetables and apple crisp
with caramel on top. We washed it down with Miller Light.
They are such good company.

I always have loads of plants on the back porch and I got
Nova to take a fern and a begonia. I can only take a few
in and I hate to let them freeze, I would rather someone
would give them a home. I will put a few in the garage
and drag them out on sunny days and they will survive until
spring in a dismal condition. It wouldn't be worth it if
didn't know that they reach their full glory as it gets
warm outside.

I spent the morning at Tinker Air Force Base, buying groceries and stocking up on wine. Then back at home in time for lunch and picking up little girls. Ashley brought
a spare with her and Rex was in heaven with two younger
children to play with. He really needs a twelve year old
boy instead of two senior citizens.

It's water in the basement that I need to deal with. The new water heater is less than a year old, and the furnace doesn't do well under water either. We'll get some wind, but that's not new either. Not so good when the grand is saturated as it is now. We'll be fine unless a tree falls on the bedroom.

I still have plants outside. Every day I think this is the day to bring them in, then it gets nice again. Every warm day is a blessing now. I hope the good weather holds until after Halloween and the kids get to wear their costumes without coats.

Rex gets enough entertainment from your grandkids and the school kids (right?) Don't worry about him... Your days always seem so full!!!

You need a sun room for your plants!

I have had a sunroom but I like an open porch better because the sunroom
gets too hot in a sunny state like Oklahoma. We have ceiling fans on the
porch so it is comfortable.

We have these interludes of warm weather which I enjoy. They really help
because you can get some outside things done comfortably.

So far so good here as Winter has not made it debut.

I can't believe we are freezing and you are warm.

Great that you love your in-laws. Ed hates his (my sis's husband) and as a result we no longer socialize. Yeah, he's a pain, but Ed can't forgive him.

We have had a lot of fun with that brother and his wife and now he is
helping with things that I can't do. We are so grateful. Sorry your
bil is bad news.

There is a lot of satisfaction in gardening and in drinking wine as well.

Great that you stocked up on some wine. By all means read Fredo's Public Service Announcement about drinking wine.

I did, let us all stay safe and leave water alone.

The folks at the base commissary must think you're a real wino...

I have a standing order for a case on the 25th of the month. Ted doesn't
let it age.

I'd settle for winter right about now instead of a hurricane. Nice that you can save some plants. That doesn't work around here. They are either perennials in the ground, or they are dead by December.

Do be ready to leave if you have to. I worry about you and Fredo and
Elkhound. Flooding is nasty. Are you far enough on the hill, not to worry?
