Wind and Medicine

We are coping with a hot, high wind and it has been huffing
and puffing for the past three days. It has spoiled my
roses, ruined my hair and forced Rex to lie on the floor with
his nose in an air conditioner vent.

I blew my diet today, gratifying my craving for mashed potatoes and gravy. It is insane because I never used to
care for mashed potatoes. Linda is craving them too.

There is another band concert tonight. Ashley's went well
last night and we were proud of her although she didn't reap
a vast quantity of awards. I think she was disappointed but
you can't win all the time.

Adrienne's concert should be better if they don't attempt
any thing too arty and difficult. The eighth grade band met
their Waterloo on a piece that was supposed to recreate the
battle of Gettysburg.

Ted has a prescription for Namenda which in the U. S. costs
293.00 a month. It is available from Canada Drugs for
a little over 200 dollars for a 3 month supply. Your doctor
must be willing to call in the prescription for you. The
number is 800-375-6919. We have been very happy with it and
the V.A. here refuses to prescribe it for Ted. Some of the
drugs are so expensive now, that unless you want all your
mad money to go for medicine, you have to sniff out alternative solutions. So far Aleve works wonders for me.

We are anxiously awaiting the results from Bobby's latest
scan. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

Drugs are so expensive. I hate when I need antibiotics. I am allergic to almost all of them/every class, and when I need one, I have to waltz an authorization all over the VA hospital to get three different doctors sign off on the prescription because the only ones I can take are drugs the VA does not ordinarily dispense. It takes almost all day. I hope Bobby does well with his tests.

Bobby's cancer is responding to this harsh chemo and we have hope now even
though he will still have to have chemo every three weeks. I so want him to
see his girls grow up. They need their Dad.

Windy weather gets on everyones' nerves, and many times we'll get some much-needed precipitation only to have the wind come along and take it away within a few hours.

I am preparing for a year of drought and wild fires. The state is making a
determined effort to get rid of the cedar trees that act as fuel. They are
native to Oklahoma and just reproduce rapidly.

I don't like high winds even if the ground isn't soft and wet. We've had branches and twigs down recently. I used to be able to say that wind isn't an issue here, but the climate is changing no matter what anybody chooses to believe.

Having weathered the coldest winter and spring in over a hundred years, I
don't see how anyone could dispute climate change. I planted a few hills of
summer squash yesterday, almost as late as you are.

If Namenda is a new drug for memory loss, I am happy it seems to be working for Ted. Still a lot of problems with our U.S. system. You have mentioned Aleve before -- you take it for arthritis pain? I am doing well with pine bark extract, available at Puritan.com for $20 or so a bottle. It does relieve joint pain. They also market Pycnogenol, the same thing, but charge much more for this trade name.

Will keep Bobby in mind. Let us know. We are in your corner.

xx, Teal

Yes, the combination of Aricept and Namenda is supposed to delay some of
the more frightening symptoms of dementia. I take Aleve for arthritis. I
may try the pine bark extract too. we will know something about Bobby this
afternoon. By the way, the senior band was exceptional and we enjoyed it
so much.

Prescription drugs are annoying, insurance is annoying, all
If it should be revamped for NON profit. Dare to dream. Prayers for Bobby.

Medicare works so well that I think it might be streamlined and be an ideal
health plan for everyone. We NEED universal health care. The poor should
not have to depend on emergency room care or go without.
