Violent Movies

The effect that they have on the mentally unstable is
painfully obvious. But it has to have an effect on normal
people too. Ashley was very frightened by it and would
not go see the movie with her family. She chose to stay
with us and we are not in the least exciting. I turned on
the evening news and promptly turned it off. I see no need
to wallow in tragedy and it was distressing to her.

People have to move on from tragedy. It is upsetting to me
to mark the Oklahoma City Bombing each year. I was
overcome with grief because it happened but it is over now,
and I have no desire to see the residual artifacts or the
empty chairs that mark the spot.

These acts of violence leave me with so many questions.
Why harm innocent people? Why do we have constant
wars? Why do we live in such a violent culture? Why is
life not sacred, both human and animal? I know there
aren't any answers but I do blame the news media and
glorified violence in movies and on tv for a lot of it.

I do not watch horror movies and did not see the first Batman movie of this type. I cannot watch gruesome, senseless violence. It must have an effect on children because it definitely has an impact on me! I have not watched any of the Jason or Elm Street movies, and will not watch any movie where the write up leads me to expect a gruesome death. On the other hand, I do love good suspense.

When my youngest was a kid she asked me to rent the movie Candyman for her birthday party entertainment. The party guests seemed amazed and awestruck when I said I would. When I asked for it at the video rental store I found out it was a horror movie so I got them a Disney flick instead.

Good choice. The old horror movies were entertainment. The new ones
with the special effects are horribly real.

I note that most of these gun nut mass killers never served in the Army or the Marines. This does not include the nut case from Fort Hood, who did it because he had connections to Al-Walawki, the terrorist in Yemen.

I am all for mandatory armed service for one year so that these spoiled
kids will learn a little bit about discipline. Maybe they can learn some self
discipline while they are at it.

I agree with you. I can't fathom what the heck is so wrong with people that they feel the need to take the lives of innocent people.

It is disgusting and it makes me sick at my stomach.

If teens actually saw a person killed violently, they would probably be instantly sick to their stomachs. But television and movies treat it as though it's an everyday thing. They cannot help but become desensitized to it. Taylor and Baylor love it....the more violent the better. Kenzie is not yet allowed to attend violent movies; but it is only a matter of time.

Adrienne loves it too. I am glad Ashley chose to stay and play blackjack
and War with me.

I saw the first Batman Dark Knight movie and was shocked at how over-the-top violent it was, and yet McDonalds had a Happy Meal tie-In with the movie, promoting it to children. Even though movies are rated, parents ignore this and take their young children to see them. One of the deceased from the movie theater was a 6-year old girl. I think this would be frightening for other children like Ashley.

I am glad Ashley had enough sense not to go. Of course the three other
family members loved it.

It's true. The world has become desensitized because we'll allow people to do violence and repulsive behavior in our homes through television that we would never allow them to do in person.

I don't think these teens realize that dead is dead. They have seen so much on tv that glamorizes it.

The media only produce what will sell. If people didn't gobble up violence and unimportant junk, we wouldn't be bombarded with it. The spin put on some of what the media runs with is unbelievable: glorify a pervert/weirdo like Michael Jackson, spend a month on the "entertainment" shows downplaying the fact that Whitney Huston was a garden variety druggie, fussing about the shooting of one neighborhood punk when black-on-white violence gets ignored. And since when is the outcome of a prime-time TV "reality" show worthy of coverage on the next morning's news cast? Ugh....

I gather that you are as disgusted as I am. I loved your video. Ted watched it with me and said, "Those people are having so much fun."
