Many of our family traditions are rooted in a Southern
culture. I hear from my blog friends that I have a
Southern accent flavored with Oklahoma and Texas. One of
these traditions is hospitality. It would be unthinkable to
fail to extend it to friends or kin.
Another tradition is welcoming the New Year with black eyed
peas cooked with ham. I have some in the crock pot now.
It is supposed to bring a happy and prosperous year. I have
not been fond of black eyed peas but I am going to have
a tablespoon for luck tomorrow.
Christmas Eve, for us, is better than Christmas. It is when
we exchange gifts, although it goes on through Christmas
day.
Ted and I made a trip to Gonzales, Texas where my mother's
family came by boat from North Carolina. I met relatives
that I had never known and because of family tradition, it
was just like coming home. My Aunt Lottie and my cousin,
Virginia, became such good friends.
I wish you all a fabulous New Year. Ours will be very
tame. There is a New Year's party downtown but we won't
go, although we can see the fireworks from the back porch.
Be Safe!
I hope you had a wonderful NYE!
