Ted and I were out in the yard yesterday afternoon when a
huge and confused black German Shephard came running toward
the nearest busy street. He would not have stood a chance if
he had reached it because the cars just whiz by without a
care for anything or anyone.
He had a collar and a tag and I coaxed him to me and watered
and fed him and put him in the garage. When I fed him, he
instantly adopted me as his new Mama. We knew we would have
to wait until the vet's office opened to find out who he
belonged to but I put a lost dog sign in front of the house.
Rex was furious. I would not call the dog catcher because he
was obviously a much loved dog. During the time we had him,
I tripped and fell and he instantly came and covered me with
doggy kisses and concern.
Ted and I decided that if we couldn't find his owner, that we
would keep him but we were not happy at the thought of having
two humoungous dogs shedding hair all over the house and having to cope with Rex and his jealous ways.
This morning, I got up and walked him and gave him a dental
bone and went to the grocery store to get some dry food. I
wasn't about to feed him chicken and pasta that Rex is used
to having. I asked the grocery boy if he knew of anyone
who had lost a dog and he said, "Yes, she was frantic and
I have her phone number." I took it down but when I got
home, his owner had come searching for him and found my sign.
Ted said that they were joyously reunited. I am stuck with
a large sack of kibbles and bits but I am so delighted that
such a good dog got to go home to people who love him.
