Rain ... Glorious Rain!

The drought has not broken by any means but we got over an
inch of rain yesterday. This has been a cold spring and one
that I am not enjoying. I love sun and warmth and can barely
make it through winter.

The drought our country is experiencing impacts us all,
sometimes in ways that we don't think about. We all know
the price of food will escalate, more family farms will
disappear and natural water supplies will be depleted but aside from the economic consequences there is the effect
that there will be on wildlife and farm animals. The lack
of grass and water spells catastrophe for them.

It means more wild fires that threaten everything in their
paths.

The drought has not broken and will probably continue but I
am happy for every precious drop of rain we get. This is
the first good rain we have had since last fall. I cheerfully
built a fire in the fireplace and dashed to and fro in the
cold rain. It is worth it!!!

I was just reading how this drought we are in now is of the same depth as during the Dust Bowl. They were saying there are different factors in play - nowadays it's not a matter of bad farming practices that's going to contribute to the diaster, but the dryness is getting as alarming.

It sure as shootin' is alarming according to all us old timers. We finally
got two and a half inches of rain but a lot more is needed to fill up ponds
and lakes.

We had a mini heat wave on Easter Sunday. It was 72F but temperatures will be below normal and the rain is returning for the rest of the week. I wish I could send some of it to you.

Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and parts of Texas are desperate need of
moisture. We will take all you can send us.

I can just see you out there, running around in the rain, both arms raised, mouth wide open, getting soaked and loving every second of it!!!

New England springs, summers and fall make up for the winter's cold. I hope
drought doesn't hit your part of the country.

Hope you get more rain soon. Worried about the dry trend. The planet is changing.

The planet is indeed changing. We need to adapt, rather than debate about
global warming.

Hopefully it's a change in the trend from dry to wet. We'll be experiencing a similar thing: I's been a cold spring, forecast for 14F tonight. Then the jet stream heads north in the morning and by tomorrow afternoon it should be 55F And that will finally signal the start of spring (a few weeks late as usual). The last drought map I saw, 26 March shows improvement in the east with the most serious need for moisture in the mid-section. Hopefully you'll get at least enough to have greenery and flowers around the house.

Our trees are at last beginning to leaf. Ordinarily they are full of leaves
by my birthday. I have planted a lot of stuff but it is covered up until
it warms up a little. I want early tomatoes!!
