Thank You Sassy Goodykoontz

My family is obsessed with red velvet cake and I can't seem
to find a mix here. Miss Goodykoontz sent me a box with a
number of packages of the mix and thanks to her. it is a
snap to make. Making it from scratch is a horror because it
takes a full bottle of red food coloring and frankly the mix
is better than from scratch. I try to fix something for
Bobby and his family to enjoy on weekends.

I devoted Saturday to cooking. I delivered a red velvet cake
to the kids, made a dutch apple pie for us and froze a batch
of chili for the days when the tile and tile setter arrive.
I will probably take up the kitchen floor today which isn't
at all hard, it is tongue and groove laminate. I will donate
all of it to the Viet Nam Veterans or Habitat for Humanity .
It is in good shape but not practical for the kitchen, bath
and utility room. I am making bean soup today, it freezes
well. I got that recipe from Ms. Goodykoontz also and we have
it at least once every two weeks.

Aside from Bobby and his wife, I was convinced we were the
only Democrats in Oklahoma. A neighbor visited last night
and I found out that she has her Obama pin and her sign ready. She is living in hope that someone will ask her to
sign the "Personhood" petition. She has a scathing retort
ready for them. I believe the Senate has passed it and it
has gone to the House, so she is too late.

Our book club selection is "The Night Circus" by Erin Morganstern and it is fantasy and magic and a love story.
It is so good and a first book that I read the author's blog
and found that she is an artist and an actor as well. The
discussion should be fascinating. Try it, you will like it
providing you have a bit of fun in your soul.

I must be off to the kitchen but thank you for sharing my
little world.

Shame on me! I remember reading this, then I failed to comment? I think because I googled "Goodykoontz" only to learn that she is our own kitchen sink!

My favorite cake when I allow myself to have any cake at all, and if it isn't chocolate ice cream cake, is black forest cake. I haven't ever had red velvet cake and feel deprived. Did I mention I tried to work on my loft floor once and spent the next day in bed? Should I know who Ms. Goodykoontz is? What high energy vitamin do you take? I shopped today with Ed and now I am totalled. (But I bought two bras at Soma's -- elegant but pricey.) Bonded with yet another sales woman at Saks -- she thought I was funny. Told her Ed shops, I sit in the mall -- role reversal.

Love red velvet cake. You make me tired. Wish I had the energy and the will power to cook like you do. How is Bobby doing?

Bobby has a better attitude and has gained a little weight. He will have
chemo every two weeks until the last of July. Working has been very good
for him because they are so supportive of him. All I can do for him is
to cook for him and be there for him when he wants to talk. He is on a high
carb diet. I do have been blessed with a lot of energy and it is a good
thing because since Ted has had his stroke, he has none.

It has passed??? You are such the baker. You go girl! My friend read and enjoyed The Night Circus. I didn't think it sounded all that great, I get bored with too much detail and not enough stuff.

It passed the Senate and has gone to the house. I don't doubt that it will
pass. People here are living in the middle ages and Santorum won the Ok.
primary. Boo!! I am savoring The Night Circus. It is not something that
you want to read fast.

I am taking a high energy vitamin and it helps but I am ready to wind down
and pour myself a glass of wine.

Amymarlene wanted me to let you know she has been thinking of you, but has been busy cleaning the house because it's spring. Something about now she is going to paint the whole kitchen blue or maybe green. Knowing her, it will be very subtle and to most of us it will still look beige.

Say Hi to Amymarlene and tell her beige is safe but no fun at all. Ha!

You're welcome! I bought the last boxes of that mix in town and sent them to you. (But still have my eye out for another source.) I tried that cake from scratch, and it came out dry, so mixes are the way to go.

When I made that cake from scratch, I got that horrible red color all over the Kitchen. It wasn't very good either. The mix is good and benefits from
a tablespoon of cocoa. I am grateful.

Red velvet cake... Seems to be the most popular at AA anniversaries.

I don't know why. I love most any kind but not chocolate and not red velvet.
I think they may like the cream cheese icing. My favorite is carrot cake or
angel food.
