Summertime

Summertime and the livin' is easy. We are having the obligatory cook out today. Bobby has a great smoker and
he is doing the meat and it is paper plates for me since his
women are notorious for leaving me with the dishes and clean
up.

I really enjoyed Fredo's post about Buffy. Rex has reacted
so differently to abuse. He ran away from home. I don't
think he has a shred of loyalty because my neighbor brings
him a bone and showers him with kisses and I know he would
go off with her in a minute. But he is a very beloved dog
and although I draw the line at kissing him, he gets plenty
of attention.

Believe it or not, I have a tomato getting ripe. I am as
thrilled as though it had sprouted an emerald. Store bought
tomatoes and squash just don't have the flavor of home grown.
I enjoyed looking at Jeremy's garden. I only have a few
plants and am happy to say that I have a small yard that is
easy to keep. It is plenty big enough now that Ted can
no longer assist with gardening. It was such a good move
to sell the farm when we did. With both Bobby and Ted ill,
it is easier for us to be here.

Yes, your move was times well. Love home-grown tomatoes.

We once had a cat who was so disloyal he went to live with an older couple two blocks away because they fed him sweet potatoes.

Cats are notorious for loving the best cuisine.

You're welcome to come and see the garden any time. Also, any pointers from a seasoned gardener like yourself would be most welcome!

I am not a seasoned gardener but I got a ripe tomato yesterday. I threw
caution to the wind and planted in early March.

CGTS on the tomato! I don't eat store-boughts either. Might as well eat the package instead.

I am having a home grown ripe tomato for breakfast. I never get the store
bought ones, they are truly awful.

Sending you some holiday smiles, Jeri! Enjoy your day, and that tomato when picking time comes! While I no longer have a garden, or a yard, I recall my delight when the veggies started ripening, and the joy of eating homegrown goodies. I get the same feeling now at the farmers' market and the bounty I bring home.

We are having a bacon and tomato sandwich for breakfast! Thanks for the
smiles.

You don't kiss Rex? I kiss all my animls. It's luff.

Rex slobbers and is a bad kisser. Cats, I kiss because they are always
clean and smell good. I painted a picture of my china and it brought tears
to my eyes.

wow!a ripe tomato how cool is that.We finished up the garden or Mike did.
Got all of the plants in.Our neighbor will be watering while we are gone.
Buffy has quiet down for years. He has not bitten us any more and now he is a puppy dog.
But still we have to be careful with people. He had not had any problem with them.
Guess,we are.LOL.
He is with us till his dying days. For us.Love hurt and that is why we keep him.We love him.
comment by fredo on May 28, 2012 8:25 AM ()
Love does hurt, but where would we be without it? Ted remarked last night
how he was looking forward to seeing you and Mike.

It's a shame those two girls don't help you with the dishes - their mother is a lost cause. Very early in our relationship I trained Mr. TBend to put his dishes in the dishwasher - none of this eat and run off like dogs at their dinner.
comment by kitchentales on May 28, 2012 7:32 AM ()
Yes, they need to be trained to help. I tried to train Ted but I think the
dishwasher intimidates him. He does rinse and take his dishes to the sink
but that one further step would help.

I had to laugh at your tomato (emerald) - I totally understand that!! And smart on using the paper plates. I actually don't like big meals because all I can think about is all the dishes and clean up afterwards. Takes away from the enjoyment... I bet Rex is more attached to you than you think. Dogs usually know their people - but yeah I think Tucker would go with someone else as well.

Yes, paper plates help. I have always set the table nicely because I thought
the girls needed the training but no more! We always use paper plates but
real silverware at the family reunion. It is ripe and ready for bacon and
tomato sandwiches!!!
