Ted and Bobby subscribe to Smithsonian magazine and the March
Issue is absolutely wonderful. It was the work of some new
photographic artists and the one that really rang a bell for
me was by Farzana Wahidy,an Afghan woman. If you can get a
copy, look at her work. She is telling the story from the
inside out.
There is also an article on American speech which I found
fascinating. I have been familiar with the term "catty wampus' all my life and it means something done inexpertly but
they use wampus as a mythical animal. In the Ozarks, being
with squirrel means your wife is pregnant. Also "teemin"
means being with child. A gospel bird is a chicken. Doesn't
that just tell you it is Sunday dinner after church. Long
sugar is molasses and old Huldy is the sun.
Then there is an old sculpture dating from 40,000 years ago
sculpture of a woman's torso anatomically correct that is
very interesting. It is a great magazine and I am looking
forward to reading more about the Titanic.
