The Social Animal

I just now finished The Social Animal and it is fascinating.
It blends emotional and cognitive thinking in a way that
is easy to understand if you take time with it. It is extremely readable and makes the point each one of us
needs a society to belong to be it gang bangers or high
achievers. It tells of the values that most of us on this
blog hold to be true in order for life to be on an even keel.

Persistance, self confidence, task completion, morality,
and points out how like seeks like in the social order and
has numerous good insights. In other words it is well
worth reading.

I am very disturbed by my favorite neighbors. Our bedroom
is close to theirs and we heard a lot of crying and carrying
on in the middle of the night. They have always seemed
close and happy. She is gone and may not be coming back.
Ted suspected physical abuse and if that is the case, she
is right not to return. There are so many little hills and
vallies in a marriage. It is sometimes difficult to negotiate
them. I hope that this is just a hill and not a major divide
because they are such nice people.

Good analysis of the book. I think we'd be amazed at what really happens in marriages. I can think of my two.

Ed ordered it for me at the library and I am 19th on the list, 18 ahead of me. I am tempted to just buy it on Amazon.

It's great to find a good book. Sometimes I feel like they are few and far between.

I'm now halfway through the book, and find it very interesting as well. It pulls together so many disciplines — especially psychology, sociology — and it's so insightful. I'm going to have to buy a copy because I don't want to return it to the library. I want to have it in my home library.

I'm sorry for your neighbors' distress. I hope they reach out for the support and counsel they need.
