Saturday News and Views

My best news is that Ted actually felt like taking on a
home remodeling task this morning. The ugly Hollywood
lights around my bathroom mirror are no more. Tomorrow,
we can pick out replacements...you will never know how
much I hated those eighties horrors. He also cleaned up
the air conditioner. The Dr. told him he might not have to
have another steroid shot for a year. He felt good to be
doing something.

Adrienne is home from band camp and she had a fabulous
time. She and Ashley came over and we played black jack
and popped corn this afternoon. She loved having a room
mate and she said the food was to die for. Six guys from
her school went.

I went to see Bobby this morning. He has two more chemo
treatments left. He still has most of his hair and is feeling
more optimistic although he exhausted a great deal of the
time. He has only had one secondary infection. I am so
glad his ordeal is coming to a close. He should have his
last surgery and be well by Christmas. He and my Dad love
Christmas with a passion and Bobby always take his vacation
then.

It rained for about twenty minutes this afternoon which
was a very good thing. Not as hot as last summer but it
seemed especially sickening this afternoon.

I especially loved jjohn's video about small town America.
Gatherings like that mean America to me. It is not about
having l00 cars and a 20,000 square foot house and l6
bathrooms. It is about ordinary people getting together
and enjoying simple pleasures like ice cold lemonaide on
a summer evening in the town square. It is dogs and kittens
and toddlers and grandma and grandpa all together and
having fun.

I am so glad to hear Bobby is doing so well. I was... we all were worried about him. Will have to pop over to watch jjohn's video.

So glad Bobby's road is getting shorter with the chemo. It does exhaust you toward the end. When I was going through my seven months of chemo, I thought it would never end. I had several secondary infections and kept having to be hospitalized for them. So many things went wrong that my oncologist nicknamed me "Trouble" and called me that for years when I would go in for my checkups.

It was great seeing you three today, however briefly. Look for that okrie soon!

I'll be checking my porch in the morning. You are going to have such a
good time. Don't come back the scenic route

Good news about Ted feeling better! And my heart is cheering for Bobby's finishing his chemo. A hard road getting shorter. My dear dear friend here just finished her breast cancer radiation on Friday, and the coast is clear now. She will be doing the regular follow-ups, and we are so relieved. My dear Sylvia is keeping up the fight against her stage 4 ovarian cancer. Very very tough. I hope to get to Chicago soon for a visit with her and my sweet brother.

Oh, it is such a relief to be near the end of the road with the chemo. He
still has to have the re-connection as soon as he is well enough for surgery.
It can't come too soon for him. I made him a chocolate pie today to
celebrate. I am so sorry that you are going through this with friends and
relatives.

We got to talk with you and Mike and Jeremy today. I found just what I
wanted at Home Depot. Victorian sconces to replace the chrome lights that I detested! Ted nearly fainted at the price of crown molding but he recovered. Next time remind me and you can have a bath in my Jacuzzi
tub if you will be good in there.

just about every evening we all gather on the front porch and our friends from down the road come to join us. I found a little sign in a store that said front porch friends are the best. but the sign was very small or else I would have bought it. we just sit out there, talking, drinking tea or soda's and enjoy each other's company. and giggle over our granddaughter's latest antics. she is almost two and a joy to be around.

That is such a nice thing to do. We usually sit on the back porch and
holler back and forth with our neighbors. We have good ones on either
side of us. Rex enjoys their dogs. He heard Jeremy this afternoon and ran
to the window and wagged his tail before I knew Jeremy was here. Hug
Dakota for me.-

Glad Ted is feeling good enough to do stuff. I went to a Salvation Army band camp when I was 12 or so. I played the cornet and got an honorable mention in the competition they held at the end. It was a good experience. I was not universally liked. That never bothered me.

They had three bands and Adrienne didn't make the top one, just the middle one but it didn't bother her. They had concerts under the stars
every night by the staff and she made a lot of friends and played a lot of
music. It gives a life time of pleasure doesn't it?

I tried to get still shots of some of the dogs. The Shelter was well represented too. There was one dog, not from the shelter, but it had back wheels instead of legs. They usually make a big deal about that in news articles, but this was an ordinary Delhi dog. People kept getting in the way of the camera--one of the disadvantages of digital: it takes too long to shoot.

My buddy with bladder cancer finally had his last chemo, but every time they go in he gets and infection and the following treatment was delayed because of it. Some sort of "team" from infectious diseases is now involved since that's not supposed to happen. With no treatments scheduled, he could be severely infected without knowing it. Guess he's scheduled for a piss-test or something, then follow up in a few months.

Cancer treatments are so brutal. They have to find a better way to target
the cancer without chemo and radiation. Prostate cancer killed my father and the treatment was excruciating for him too. Thanks for the Video.
It was super.

I'm glad the band camp went well (that week sure went fast, didn't it?). Be sure to tell me what new lights you get. I need light fixtures all over the place, but don't know what to get. I feel like taking a big bunch of money to a lighting store and coming out with lamp shades and vanity lights, and fixtures for the front hallway. I looked at Habitat for Humanity, and there isn't much point in 'updating' with builder-grade light fixtures removed from tract homes 10 years ago.

Because of the wiring, we will have to get side lights and I have a picture
in my mind. Ted doesn't have the same picture, I can tell. Home Depot
has nice ones and I am starting there.
