Promises

The weather man assured us that we would finally get a
cooling rain. We did have a lot of thunder this morning
but rain has eluded us again.

Sara's husband may be transferred to San Antonio. I hope
not but it is a lovely place to live. My friend who will
be moving to Baltimore came over last night and voiced
her fears that her children would whisk her into a retirement home. There are a lot better alternatives. She
is terminally tight fisted and doesn't want her savings to
disappear into an assisted living center. I think she
would be happy in an apartment a few blocks from a shopping
center and I have suggested that. She gets around well
but she has made up her mind to be unhappy about the whole
thing. It is dreadful to lose your independence.

I hope Ellie doesn't need my help taking Adrienne and her
friends to the Science Museum again today. She was on an angry trip yesterday because Bobby would not get a speaker
repaired on her car. Bobby is physically very lazy but
she ought to know that having been married to him for l5 years. It would be a lot more peaceful if she just went
ahead and did it herself.

The smoke from the wildfire in Arizona affects our air
here. I find myself coughing a lot and losing my voice.
With this heat, there will be more and it is disasterous
for people and wild life.

Supposedly, that's why we save money--so we can retire comfortably, even in a "home". Of course, it's not going to happen to me! By the way, you can keep your heat and smoke down your way.

Teal, Joan didn't mean you. You are a sweetheart. When I lived in Virginia, just a pregnant and scared 21 year old, I was smothered in
concern and love..much more than In Oklahoma. Casual acquaintances
crocheted baby coats and bonnets and booties for Linda.

But you were on a military base. My business experience with the East and West coast people has, as a rule, not been good. I should not have been so all-inclusive, however.

I think most people shy away from the exorbitant expense. It costs around
sixty thousand a year for one person. There should be b etter alternatives.

I toured a retirement home I'd be happy to move into now.

I would too because the nicer ones have games and social events and take
you to plays and concerts. But it costs the earth.

The weather down here has been pleasant but hot. I don't know what will happen to me when I can no longer be trusted to care for myself. My son will certainly place me in a retirement home.

I am glad that we can't see into the future, I think the Golden Girls
had a great thing going. We could just count on each other.

Hope you get some rain. We had that huge storm the other night, and I could have done without the pea-sized hail, but all that rain was a blessing. It slowed down the runoff, so there is less danger of too-high water in the river, so all is good in that respect.

It rained last night. I lost a y ellow squash plant from the severe heat
and my tomatoes are blooming but there are no little ones on the vine. kWe
usually have tomatoes by the fourth of July.

I for one do not think of these things.I am not going anywhere but staying in my home and they have to drag me out.But that is it.
Keep moving.Retirement home is for the birds.

You are so right Fredo. I am going out and get a bottle of Aleve and
keep moving. We are not normal for our age group.

I hope things work out for your friend in Baltimore. It will be much different from the Midwest. I personally have never cared for the people on the East or West coast. I think they have superiority issues with the rest of us paeans, especially those from New York City to D.C.

It will be hard for her in that she can no longer drive. I am so glad she
gave Phyllis her listing because Phyllis is so helpful and sweet. Her kids
blew up and said she should have gotten a bigger firm and I told her to
tell them that Phyllis was with Keller Williams. They try to second guess and be critical of every thing that she does.

Sorry, Teal. I should not have been so all inclusive. You and Martin are certainly exceptions, and I have met others as well who were. As a general rule, however, my experiences with people on the coasts have not been favorable.

help - we're not all like that. Love NYC, live in Florida now. Love my MyBloggers friends, none of whom are from NY.

My parents have talked to me about where they will go when the time comes... at first they were VERY anti retirement home. I assured them it was like college without the school part, I thought it looked like fun. Anywho - best of luck to your friend!
