On Being a Pollyanna

One of the most valuable things that I know how to do is to
be a Pollyanna. Most of the things we worry about never happen. Worrying and guilt are both wastes of time. You will lower your stress level immensely if you eliminate
those things from your life.

The way I do this if I have a problem is to imagine the worst scenario possible and then decide how I will cope
with it when it occurs. Since I have filed the solution away in my mind, I no longer have to think about it.

Positive thinking has been a real safeguard for me. I keep
a list of things I want to happen and refer to it often.
I realize in many ways I have been very fortunate. The
thing I am most grateful for is good health but I do not dwell on it with evangelistic fervor.

You have to take the bitter with the sweet. Appreciate
the sweet while you have it and don't fail to enjoy it because the worry demon is nipping at your heels.

John and Stephy are always saying live in the now. Heed
their advice.

It's not always easy to be a Pollyanna. In fact, one has to fight tooth and nail to become and remain positive. Sometimes, ignoring what's "out there" is the only way to keep from getting down in the dumps. Good post.

Thank you Randy, if we weren't Pollyannas we couldn't have been teachers.

A positive, cheerful and kind attitude only makes sense! It is how I overcome adversities, and to those who say that it is not 'realistic', I respond that we each create our own realities. How we perceive the world and interact with it is an individual choice, and I much prefer the kind world that I choose to live in.

Good advice that I really need to heed right now, and I am trying to do so.

Joanie, do what is right for you at the present time and when sorrow comes deal with it then. Don't let the anticipation of it spoil the present and
ruin the good times you deserve to have with Holly's girls. Especially
Big Sissie.

We haven't lost our lust for life, Fredo. I hope we never do.

I agree Jeri. Ed sometimes gets upset with me because I "don't understand the seriousness of the situation". Good example, the stock market. Up/down, we'll deal with it I say.

We have learned to deal with it if it happens but not to mar present
contentment. I wouldn't say either of us have had it easy but we have
learned to deal with life as it happens instead of always anticipating
disaster.
