Overdose

I have been over dosing on the Property Brothers and wanting
to kill them over the renovation of their last house. They
junked more than adequate cabinets, a new stainless steel
gas stove and one of the prettiest chandeliers that I have
seem in a while. The house was built in l935, a beautiful
4500 square foot mini mansion. The only reason they left
a huge stained glass window in shades of blue was because
the Historical Society wouldn't let them take it out.

I am not fond of open concept houses and think that a few
walls are needed for privacy. I don't want to entertain
in the living room and see dirty pots and pans in the
kitchen from a dinner party. None of us have maids and we deal with dirty dishes later.

Houses are a passion of mine and I especially love old
ones with a lot of character. I have never achieved my
dream of living in a historical house but if I had, it
would have been lovingly preserved.

I am busy beyond belief this week what with all my sick
loved ones, but thank goodness they are now doing well.

I dislike open concept intensely, even when I had young children. I needed walls to hide behind.

The kids make fun of me because I have a screen at the entry to keep
salesmen and the like from viewing the living areas. It works for me.

I had walls in New York and the result was I never got to see TV because I couldn't see the TV from the kitchen. So I like at least that much "open concept". And here, I can't see the screen, but at least I can hear the program while I am dealing with preparing dinner or cleaning up. Glad your loved ones are getting better. It is such a relief to see improvement.

I have a pass through between the kitchen and family room. It is handy
for passing Ted snacks and it enables me to hear tv, although I have often
thought about getting a small tv set for the kitchen.

Well thank goodness that you are doing well so you can take care of all those people. One of my friends was telling me how I could remove the wall between my kitchen and living room and brighten this place up. I told her aside from losing a ton of storage, it would make this house feel like a cabin to have the kitchen and living room in one, much more casual. I like the formality of separate rooms.

A food prep area is just messy at my house although I try. I like to
keep the food hot when it gets to the table. Bobby took three teens to
the Star Trek convention in Tulsa but was too weak to stay for the whole
thing. I ran errands for Ellie and checked on her while they were gone.

Thanks for letting me know what they're called! I just realized that's the kind of house my sister built just a couple of years ago, and the kind she had before too. No, I wouldn't choose to run the living room area into the kitchen and all that, either. You'd better have all the cooking done before everyone comes over for a dinner, I guess, or else it looks bad.

I do as much as I can ahead of time but my family loves mashed potatoes
and other last minute things and I am a messy person. Open concept houses
seem to be the modern way to go but I don't want one.

It's nice to hear that perspective about houses. You'd like Nicole Curtis's show, I forget the name, rehab addict maybe? She preserves every single thing she can from older homes. It's fun to watch.

I love rehab addict. I can't see replacing lovely old things and I would
have loved to go dumpster diving for that stove and that chandelier that
the property brothers so callously threw away. You are right about HGTV
being a woman's porn site.
