I voted as soon as the polls opened and hoped against hope
that Oklahoma might leak a little blue. Alas, all the
churches trotted their people out to vote red for their
peculiar religious values that do not include compassion
for the less fortunate. I had hoped that young voters
would turn the tide but it was not to be. I was particularly
involved in our Senatorial race. An experienced young
woman, Connie Johnson, was running against James Langford
whose main experience has been as a Youth Minister with
decided tea party leanings. She only got 29 per cent of
the vote despite twenty years experience at the state level.
On a brighter note, Ted is doing well and his stitches are
healing nicely. I think the Resident closed because they
sure are ugly. We met all the medical students that would
be in Surgery with Dr. Puckett and they were fun people.
A sense of humor is so important when you have that kind
of work to do. Pessimism has no place in an operating room.
Ellie is still incapacitated with her eye and she sees the
doctor tomorrow. I imagine she will opt for surgery. She
can see light in the affected eye but feels a lot of pressure. My daughter pointed out to me today that I am
the only one still healthy as she, Bobby, Ellie and Ted
are down for the count.
I baked two loaves of dilly bread today. I took one over to Bobby and Ellie and the kids. It has been a gloomy
raw and rainy day so hot bread has been a comfort. I wish
Linda lived near us but unfortunately she lives in Tulsa.
We talk several times a week but it would be fun to have
her closer.
