Kitchen Gadgets

The most helpful gadgets that I have found are as follows:

1. A bacon press

2. A Kitchen Aide vegetable peeler

3. A pastry blender

4. A good can opener...I prefer non-electric but good ones.

5. A candy thermometer

6. A blender that will frappe ice

7. A good hand mixer

8. One of those neat slicers that do almost anything and
only cost about ten dollars.

I was thinking about relatively inexpensive items that make cooking simple. Of course a microwave oven is an essential. The vegetable peeler lasts forever and is easy to
use. If you want to get into serious money, all the Kitchen
Aide small appliances and mixers work the best for me.

You may think of more things to add to the list, if so,
let us know.
to use. It is the rock star of vegetable peelers. I can't
imagine life without a pastry blender for making fast
home made biscuits and pie crusts.

I don't know if you'd call it a gadget, but a good sharp paring knife is something I can't do without.

In Florida, we have to have good, non-electric kitchen gadgets like peelers, can openers, mixers (a traditional egg beater), food choppers, etc. We often loose power during/after tropical storms and hurricanes so they are an absolute necessity. Off the top of my head, I don't know what my favorite gadgets are, but the microwave is high on the list.

Cath has a lot of these , the can opener I reckon a good hand one is the best. Cooking aids are always advertised , have a drawer full of those some work some don't

I guess you have to learn by trial and error what works and what doesn't.
Gadgets definitely make chopping onion, making hashbrowns and other things
easier. Just saw a show on Sydney, Australia. Beautiful!

Can't imagine what the peeler must look like. I use one of those things with teeth and a slit in the blade. The potato masher is the same metal thing my maw used to use. I have a blender and a food processor but I usually don't want to bother cleaning them so I use the blender for horseradish and that's about it. It would be interesting to cook in a modern kitchen.

The vegetable peeler is one like you mentioned only it works like a charm.
It peels vegetables fast and easily. No effort required. I wore out one
Kitchen Aide mixer and recently found one at an estate sale. They are
great for kneading bread.

Living in the dark ages here -- have a hand-held vegetable peeler and use it maybe once every three months (or less, lately). I use an electric can-opener because the hand ones are annoying and sometimes require too much strength. If I ever make Greek egg-lemon soup again (Ed won't eat it), I'll use a hand-held mixer if I can remember where I put it from the last time I used it (2004??) I use a veggie dicer but only dice onions in it and only when I want to embellish pasta sauce for the pasta I cook every 10 days or so. I don't make candy nor pastry because then, you know, I'd eat it. No grand kids to indulge and that about covers it.

The case of the disappearing hearts. Eddie could solve it, I know he has
been on here recently. I love to make pralines and fudge at Christmas
time and the white chocolate peppermint candy. The grandkids polish
it all off for us.

I added and they disappeared from my comments.

I love my simple European waiter's corkscrew wine opener. Works like a charm, and all I have to do is touch it, and out pours memories of wonderful times in Europe.

Ah, memories. I have an excellent corkscrew too. I put one like it in all the adult Christmas stockings some time ago.

One of my favorite kitchen tools is a spiral-shaped whisk, perfect for blending sauces and soups in the saucepan. My mom had one in the 50s and I recently found a new one at Ace Hardware.

I have several whisks but none of them spectacular. I will have to check out Ace hardware.

Sorry, I should always proof read my posts and seldom do.
