Joy

I have been looking at an old sampler in my bathroom that
says, "Be virtuous if you would be happy" and it got me to
thinking about the things that give me joy.

Cooking brings me a great deal of satisfaction. There is nothing like the smell of home made bread baking or
sliding cookies out of the oven or a pot of soup simmering
on the stove to spell home and family. I have known
many good cooks in my life. Our Laura is one of the best.
When I was seventeen, I rented a room from a widow
who was fantabulous in the kitchen. She taught me a
lot about cooking and I remember her Sunday noon dinners
with awe. My Dad's mother never used a recipe. It was
just a pinch of this and a pinch of that but she was one
of the greats.

Art is another thing that makes me happy. I try my hand at
creating it occasionally but I love to contemplate it in
museums. One of the highlights of my life was visiting the
Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. I love the impressionist
style and I just bought a Monet print to hang in our craft
room. How I wish it was an original or an even better copy.

Home decorating is another joy . My taste is definitely for the baroque and not for the faint of heart.
My house is always in a state of flux waiting for the next
item that I fall in love with.

My most abiding love is for my family and friends. They are
everything to me. I cry when they are sad and rejoice when
they are happy. As my world grows ever smaller, they are
the stars I navigate by.

We all need to open our eyes and focus on the ever-blooming blessing of touching and retouching joy in our lives every day, and connect to and celebrate each and every joyful thing that fills our hearts and souls.

Yes. I am trying to savor the good times. Right now the crepe myrtles are in bloom and the back yard is glorious.

Regarding the animals, acquaintances who have since moved away had an enormous, very pricey RV, that was very elaborate and their little dog, Partner, loved it. I said to Ed that if we had something like that, we could travel with the animals and they would be comfortable and not get car sick, etc. But he doesn't think that kind of travel is elegant and wouldn't ever do it. He once said he considered that "roughing it" was slow room service at a 5-star hotel.

RV's aren't elegant but I bet they are a lot of fun. I would love to find out and some are pretty luxurious inside.

Hi jeri; haven't been on mybloggers for so long, but I'll say this--your photo is so glamorous and you look beautiful!
I love Van Gogh, and once I was at the art museum associated with Yale, where there was a Van Gogh on display with a guard watching it. I just had to touch it, and soon as I did the guard had a fit-but for a moment I actually felt the oil paint put on that canvas by Van Gogh!

To think that you touched something that Van Gogh actually touched!
One of the most touching paintings of his is that one of his boots. Too poor to afford models, he painted what he had in front of him. So glad
you are back, Sweetie.

You have a beautiful take on life and I share your joy. Wish I could travel more. Ed is not inclined to and then, there are the animals.

I know how you feel about the animals. Rex is too needy for us to leave him for very long. I dream about having a little Winnebago for trips so he
could go too.

The best thing in my book is to hear a motor engine you have rebuilt start up for the first time

You and my husband would be soul mates. He is still working on motors
from his wheel chair.

Just as we were getting burned up with heat, I woke up this morning to the
glorious sound of rain. Life is good!

I'm so jealous of your visit to Amsterdam and the museum...I adore Van Gogh's work. His "Night Cafe" hangs in my bathroom.

It was one of the high points in my life. I was enraptured for days.

If I owned that beautiful sofa that you have in your family room, I'd feel joyful, too.

Feel free to come and loll on it anytime. It is made for snuggling up and watching TV.
