Hot in Oklahoma and Texas

It was ll0 degrees yesterday. Water rationing is on the
horizon. We can only water every other day, Naturally
this means that all our plants and grass will die and they
already look sick except for crysanthamums and crepe myrtle.

Rex cannot stay out more than five minutes. He does the
deed and comes back to the door looking wilted.

Rex got a surprise in the mail from Pet Smart. I have always bought front
line from them because of the convenience. This time I had enough points for his front line so that it was about l/3
the cost and then later a package can for Rex from them
and it was a nice sturdy ball.

This heat wave has caused algae and ecoli to pollute our
lakes. They are unsafe for swimming or wading. I hate to
think about cows and horses that will be drinking this
water.

On the plus side, we are coping well. Ted has to use a
cane now. Years ago, our neighbor Red, made us both
beautiful Native American canes. I never thought we would
be needing one so soon. He is a Pottowatomie Indian and
very artistic and there are all sorts of symbols on them.
Ted has his name on his and a bear claw and other things.
I love that the Pottowatomie Indians call themselves the
People of the Fire. There are flames on everything they
make. There are only two or three full bloods left. They
intermarried with the French and a lot of them have French
last names. Most of them have lost the typical Native
American look. They are a very rich tribe and richer still
since they opened their casinos. They do a lot for their
own people, especially the elders of their tribe.

Sorry to hear about the heat. It is so humid here I cannot breathe outside. It is probably scary for both of you that Ted needs a cane. I don't think I will live as long as you and Ted- I am not that healthy.

The boyz both start panting at temps in the low 80s, even in the shade. They can't wait to get in. 110 must be intense, even with low humidity. Hate to with the summer away, but that's too much to live with...

Yes, it is a lot to live with but I just do errands early and water at
night.

I'm enjoying our wonderful weather in Southern Oregon. It has been hanging around 80 degrees with a soft breeze blowing through the pine trees. The skies are a beautiful blue with large puffy clouds floating overhead. In the newspaper, they reported that for once we even have more than enough water for the farmers, the salmon, and the Native American's sucker fish which no one but the natives and the federal government care about. I just love living in the Klamath Basin.

80 degrees seems ideal to me. You could get by with just a fan. We aren't strangers to triple digit heat so we probably stand it better than most.

Jumpin' Hay-soos, I just looked at your humidity and it's only 25%! Yowza, your plants ARE going to die. Las Vegas summer water rationing allows for daily watering with drip irrigation, 3 times for 4 minutes each cycle. Each bush and plant has its own water emitter that puts the water right at the roots, and the grass (what there is of it) gets watered during the cool time of day. But you're not set up for that there, so it's a lot more work to deal with.

watering is a lot of work. OKC has rationed but Midwest City hasn't and will keep it up till they do. Tim, next door has the rock yard and Mike
across the street waters all the time, while Max on the other side is
letting his die. Sherry and Max and Tim and Caroline have offered to help
anyway they can and Mike came over with his card and telephone numbers. It
is nice to have good neighbors.

sorry about the heat wave there.Ted needs a cane?is he not making any improvement there. Is this for his balance?
comment by fredo on July 10, 2011 8:56 AM ()
He hasn't recovered his balance and I think a little of his memory is gone.
He doesn't remember movies and he is watching a lot of things twice. He is doubly cursed by extreme back pain.

Sorry about the cane, but at least it's a conversation piece. Is Rex enjoying his new ball?
