I have to fight my couch potato instincts constantly and
yesterday, I didn't feel well and decided to give in, read
the book club selection, Spirit of Wonder by Ann Patchett
and snuggle up in bed. What a treat! I couldn't put the
book down. It was totally original in premise and beautifully
written. I intend to request all of her books because this
one was so engaging.
I put it down long enough to fix dinner for Bobby and Ellie
and the girls and make some white chocolate chip cookies.
The characters in the book were unusual and likable and involved betrayal for the greater good of science and the
ability to overcome fear when life or death issues were
at stake. It just demands a sequel.
Our book club is interesting in that the selections broaden
the reading experience. However, most of the women in the
group are not the sharpest knives in the drawer.
My idea of heaven is a chaise lounge loaded with pillows, a
box of chocolates and a stack of great books to read plus
a purring cat blissed out at my feet.
