Fame

Ted and I watched a very good western with Stacy Keach and
his brother James playing Jessie and Frank James. We both
wondered why so often Stacy Keach is not given any recognition or even mentioned in film credits. I guess most
people know him best as Micky Spillane's Mike Hammer

Ted and I think of him as a great actor. I was so curious
that I googled him and found that he came from a family of
actors and has received a number of awards. The New York
Times hailed him in a review as being the best actor since
John Barrymore. He is a noted Shakesperian actor and made
his broadway debut in l969. I am not going to repeat wickapedia but he has also written and performed Jazz
compositions.

we don't think he has gotten the recognition he deserves.
Is he shy and doesn't want the film credits on movies where
he plays a major role? In this day and age his modesty
is refreshing. I remember a time when he was caught in
customs with, I believe, a smidgen of marijuana but that
shouldn't be held against him. He doesn't look like a
matinee idol but he looks like a real man. This puzzles
me. What is your take on it?

I love Stacey Keach. He is a great character actor although I must confess- I find his lip distracting sometimes. Still, it does not detract from his rugged good looks.

Ted has a scar in the same place because of a gun accident but he covers it with a mustache. I always figured that perhaps Stacy's scar was probably from a cleft lip at birth. I like his looks in spite of it.

Character actors rarely get the credit they deserve. I've never seen him do poorly in a film.

I would love to see him play King Lear.

Ted and I got furious watching those ugly Carridene brothers get all the
screen credits. He and James had major roles and were only credited at
the end of the movie. I would love to see him play King Lear.

I can see Keach in my mind's eye--a very unforgettable face and demeaner. But I don't remember watching him in anything particular. So, "no take".

Yes, he was Mike Hammer, Spillane's character.

I had no idea he was so diverse in his acting having only seen him in Hammer movies and others that were not A types. He is likable. Too bad I never saw his better work. But he doesn't seem to be doing much now.
