Eating Southern

I woke up this morning craving cheese grits and since my
will power has abandoned me, that is what I had for
breakfast with a big dollop of butter. It was great.

Then for lunch I prepared black eyed peas my way.
6 slices of bacon drained and reserved
Sautee an onion in the bacon grease
add a can of udrained black eyed peas.
l can of rotel and simmer while your cornbread
bakes. Just before you are ready to eat, crumble
the crisp bacon and add to the pea mixture.

I made a pan of chipotle corn bread to go with them.

It was a carb and cholesterol laden feast but then tomorrow
is another day.

My father is Texan so we grew up familiar with grits but never cheese on them. I do love black-eyed peas too so all this sounds great.

Try a little grated cheese in the grits. It is magical.

I love bacon. I'll have a slice with an egg about every two weeks.

You have a will of iron, sweetie. I cave far too often.

You have to love cheese grits if you were exposed to them.

Hmmm... If that was the only food I had available I'd be able to lose weight quickly.

Maybe you have to grow up on grits and black eyed peas to love them.
My grandmother did them best because she put pods of Okra in them
in the last stages of cooking. Of course she had a garden full of
fresh vegetables all summer.
