When I was a child, we all got new dresses for Easter and
my mother often nagged my father into going to church. He
frequently quoted the scripture that said if your ox is in
a ditch on the Sabbath, get him out. His ox was almost
always in a ditch.
Church was a little rural Methodist church in a lovely
green and shady setting. It could have been a picture
post card.
All the church ladies had been frantically sewing new clothes and buying new hats. It was always fun to see
what everyone was wearing and everyone got new white sandals that had to last all summer.
We had Easter egg hunts but I usually didn't find many
which was ok by me because I don't like boiled eggs. If
we got an Easter basket, it was full of chocolate eggs.
Spring and re-birth is always good to celebrate. Our
Easter present this year is a glorious storm with lots of
rain. We have not had rain since November so we are
loving it.
On another note, Rex is pouting. I have simply reached
the end of my rope trying to vary his meals and having him
reject good food. He has pedigree in his bowl and didn't
eat last night but I trust that he will get hungry enough
by tonight to eat dry food.
Your childhood memories of Easter are the same as mine.
