Easter Sunday

When I was a child, we all got new dresses for Easter and
my mother often nagged my father into going to church. He
frequently quoted the scripture that said if your ox is in
a ditch on the Sabbath, get him out. His ox was almost
always in a ditch.

Church was a little rural Methodist church in a lovely
green and shady setting. It could have been a picture
post card.

All the church ladies had been frantically sewing new clothes and buying new hats. It was always fun to see
what everyone was wearing and everyone got new white sandals that had to last all summer.

We had Easter egg hunts but I usually didn't find many
which was ok by me because I don't like boiled eggs. If
we got an Easter basket, it was full of chocolate eggs.

Spring and re-birth is always good to celebrate. Our
Easter present this year is a glorious storm with lots of
rain. We have not had rain since November so we are
loving it.

On another note, Rex is pouting. I have simply reached
the end of my rope trying to vary his meals and having him
reject good food. He has pedigree in his bowl and didn't
eat last night but I trust that he will get hungry enough
by tonight to eat dry food.

If dogs think they can hold out for table food, they will. On the other hand, if they don't get any, they will eat their dog food when they get hungry enough.

Your childhood memories of Easter are the same as mine.

Buddy is certain that he is human too.

The tyranny of the Easter outfit ... We'd go to the ascension service (Thursday), the funeral (Friday) and sometimes we'd just skip Sunday. It's the culture of it all that I find endearing. And, of course, I loved the choir -- all those Gregorian chants. and Vasili, the choir mistress' husband, a magnificent basso profundo with roving hands. What memories.

Animals who won't eat are worrisome. Hope Rex snaps out of it.

Rex won this round. After two and a half days of eating nothing, I broke
down and fed him people food.

Benny only refused "undoctored" food once in 11 years, so I switched to something else/better. The new stuff has 5 flavors (supposedly) and is a bit softer than what they used to get. I asked the vet if Benny might have something like TMJ that makes chewing painful and the vet wasn't sure. But the softer food is working out. Hopefully you can figure out what's going on with Rex.

The problem is that we have turned Rex into a child and he manipulates us.
He pouts and gets his way.

Love your Easter memories. Yes, new clothes (the only 'fancy' dress we would get all year), hats (what happened to hats- the proverbial 'Easter Bonnet'??) and baskets filled with eggs and chocolate bunnies are fond memories.

I think we have permanently lost the hats or perhaps Kate Middleton will
bring them back. The last time I wore one was at our wedding. However,
when it is cold you need something on your head.

Do you switch his food often? Poor guy... he'll eat when he gets hungry enough... My boys are loving their Orijen!
Your Easter memories are great!

Kristy, Rex thinks he is a person and entitled to have tasty human meals.
After two and a half days of starvation, I relented and cooked for him.
He let dry dog food just lay there in his bowl.

Lovely Easter recollection, Jeri! A treat to read and think about. Caused me to recall Easter hats and dresses and posing with my Mom in our pretties before church. Thank you — may happiness rain down on you and yours!

P.S. Hang in there: I think Rex will eat what there is he gets hungry enough....

When Linda was two, I worked on an organdy overdress with a polished
cotton underneath for weeks. I embroidered the bodice and her socks
with butterflies. It was one of the few good outcomes that I had with sewing.

Buddy the Cat has some dry food with different flavors and he was picking through it because he doesn't like one of the flavors, so we have to go through it before we put it out to sort out the bad ones because eventually it's all the ones he won't eat so he goes hungry.
