Clean and New

Every thing was washed clean last night in a wonderful rain.
We had enough thunder and lightning to make Rex a constant
presence. Poor big baby is so afraid of storms.

I went out and swept the back yard and dumped the water out of the nearly drowned plants early this morning. It is so
not typical for us to have rain in July. The lawns and flowers are still pretty and I love driving through the neighborhood and seeing all the beautiful yards.

My friend, Avis has developed diabetes and is determined to
be needlessly Spartan with her diet. Now that Splenda is available a low carb diet is not that bad. She has to beware of salt and refuses to get a salt substute. She also hasn't gotten a blood sugar moniter which would help
ease her mind about blood sugar. It wouldn't irk me so much
if she didn't want to talk about it all the time. I am being snotty about this because my view point is biased since I am blessed with good health. I still think if I
had diabetes I would make it as easy on myself as possible.
I would also not bore other people with organ recitals.
Avis is 84 and does not wish to live with any of her children so I am mailing her information on life alert and
similar products. She will probably disregard my advice.

Ted appears to be getting stronger every day. He has an
appointment with his Indian Dr. today and I am going with
him and we will have lunch with Red and Celeste at the
Indian Elders lunch room. They go every day. It will be
fun since we haven't seen them since we moved, although we
keep in touch by phone.

Have a good Monday.

I think a lot of friendships end when one of the parties embarks on some diet or loses a bunch of weight and can't shut up about it. I realize that changing lifetime habits is difficult, and all that change can require some passionate, obsessive behavioral changes, but these are not the people we laughed and drank wine or swapped recipes with, these are pod people from outer space who look like them, but otherwise are aliens. If we wanted to talk about our excellent eating/exercise habits we'd go hang around with Randy all the time.

You are so right about the passionately healthy. I am cooking today and Randy would never approve. We are having pulled pork with Sweet Baby Ray's
and banana pudding for dessert. I did buy thin buns however.

Hoping I am not getting diabetes although last check up showed no signs. My mom had it in later life. I am tired all the time, more than usual. Ed says blame it on me walking 90 minutes at noon in 90 degree heat. Maybe he's right. Anyway, I can't eat substitute sugar -- it messes me up big time. If I had to stop sugar, I'd just go sweetless -- except of course, for my nature Really glad Ted's getting better.

Check out your red blood count. If it is low this may cause being tired.
I have this problem. Then of course we have our age to put up with.Yes,you do not want to get this. But sounds like you have this licked.Exercises will keep the blood sugar down.Good luck

So glad your glitches got fixed. It is nice to have you back again. Ted is
lots better now.

So glad Ted is improving. Your friend would drive me crazy, especially if she were not willing to help herself through daily testing, etc. Maybe it is how she now seeks attention, and that sure gets old fast.
comment by dragonflyby on July 27, 2010 7:36 AM ()
It is an attention seeking behavior. She manages to settle down for a
long talk about the time that I am preparing dinner. Yuk, but she has been a good friend for 45 years and I am trying to be patient.

So glad Ted is improving now. I understand your getting tired of listening to Avis talk about her diabetes. No one really wants to have the entire conversation dominated by one's health issues.

I agree 100 per cent. I spent my entire life listening to my mother go on about every malady she ever had, ever hoped to have, or ever thought she had.

Health issues are serious but my thinking on this is that everyone has them
and it is a lot healthier just to pretend you don't,

good news on ted ---diabetes is not to be joked about , real serious just lost my brother with it ---lost legs 5 years back .. before that he knew he had it but just wouldn't take advice , might be still here if he did

It is serious and I am sorry about your brother. It runs in families so
be careful and get checked often.

YAY for Ted! I am very happy to hear that! You are a good friend for sending helpful info your friends way...

When I was pregnant with Bobby, we just had one car. The Dr. made me come in every day for a blood pressure and weight check. Avis took me to the
doctor every day and I will never forget how helpful she was. I guess she
has a right to bend my ear excessively.

Good news there on Ted.I do not talk about health issues.Once you start no letting up that someone has a better story of his or her health.I get very annoy at this.I do not mind if someone ask for advice.Visa Versa.
Who wants to hear it.

Ted really liked the card you sent. It made his day. Hugs.
reply by elderjane on July 29, 2010 10:07 AM ()
Glad Ted is better. The diabetes talk will probably wear off after a while. She'll become as bored as you are with it, if you're lucky.
Jenn's fine. Thanks for asking. Sort of sick to her stomach most of the time, but other than that she's doing great.

A few more weeks and she will be feeling better, I hope. Ted is having a
bad day today but will soon be much better.
