Catching up and an Easy Recipe

Sunday was a family day. My daughter, Linda and her daughter
Sara came to visit along with Sara's babies. Owen is a
two and a half year old dynamo and Chandler is about two
months old. She looks a lot like Linda did as a baby, with
dark hair and eyes that I am pretty certain will be brown.
Look on facebook if you want to see the pictures.

It is becoming very hot. It is supposed to be 101 tomorrow
and we plan on the movies and the buffet afterward. Sometimes
you have to treat yourself.

I shopped at the commissary today. I was there by nine a.m.
because it is so very hot. All of us are trying to eat a
little healthier. I make a cottage cheese salad that is also
a great dip by grating an onion in it, grating some carrot
and letting it sit over night before serving. Tomato is good
added at the last minute. We ate this a lot when I was a
young girl because it was so readily available. My mother
made a lot of cottage cheese but the commercial kind is
tastier than the home made variety.

Groceries are out of sight. I shop at three different
grocery stores. Aldi's was very reasonable at first but
they have gone up a lot so I just shop there for baking
supplies, produce and milk and butter. And yes, I use the
real stuff!

the heat will hit us today, but i have my pool to relax in. I just need a floating drink holder! I love cottage cheese and cannot keep it stocked in this house!
groceries are outrageous! it's like a seek and find game, trying to feed your family without taking out a loan!

Hi, wish I could join you. We are having major pool problem and can't get it re-lined till mid-August. Looks like I won't be "relaxing" until September. As a kid in non-air conditioned Chicago flat, I can relate to the torture of 90 degree weather and no breeze. Have central air now. What a blessing.

We keep the thermostat at 74. Such a blessing. when I was a kid we had
to find a southeast breeze to get cool.

101! hope you have the air con on , mine is set at 22c outside is 9c.
Aldi is opening a store in adelaide , shopped at one interstate and are a lot cheaper, competition for groceries is fierce here , Cath does main shopping in Foodland and tops up with specials at COLES, use Woolworths only for specials as they are too dear

Aldi's is a good store. I'll bet Cath knows where the bargains are.

I have never heard of home-made cottage cheese. It doesn't come like that out of the cow?

There is process where milk is heated until it coagulates then drained
and put in a colander and washed. Then the whole thing is strained in a
cloth and drained again. We sold cream and had a lot of skimmed milk to use up.
My mother even fed cottage cheese to the chickens and they gobbled it up.
Laura probably knows all about the process. I was never a part of it so
can't be more specific.

We buy chicken these days because it hasn't gone up like beef and pork. Even what used to be the cheaper cuts are outrageously expensive even with 30% off when they get "old". The scary thing is that food prices aren't counted in the index that governs the COLA for social security. People won't be getting a break come January.

Fried chicken is very good and so is chicken soup. I also get a pork roast
and do pulled pork with Sweet Baby Ray's sauce on it. We eat sandwiches a
lot now that the Early Girls are going to town.

Does anyone wear clothes there? Does anyone really move, in that heat? And if so, why? You should all be sitting in a pool with a drink in your hands.

Ah yes, we get accustomed to the heat. I am all for the pool and a
strawberry Margarita, with a dollop of ice cream in it.

I hate grocery shopping. Last week, I spent over $100 and did not even buy meats!

A lot of my shopping is otc medicines, cleaning supplies etc. I have loads
of home grown tomatoes. We eat a lot of shaved ham and smoked turkey
sandwiches. I don't cook a lot anymore.

It's 90 and I'm dying of heat... Stay cool!!! You are very dedicated to shop three times ... I shop once but I'm sure I overpay for things!
Saw the FB pics, lovely family...

Thanks for the compliment to my family. They are my treasures. I am proud
of their good looks. I loved the pictures of Skylar in the lake.
