And They Called the Wind Mariah

The wind is howling around the house and it is supposed to
get up to 60 miles per hour today. It will tear up all the
tender little plants that we have put out.

Ellie is in Moscow now and she will be embarking on her
seventeen mile train trip to Kurov. We had Bobby and the
kids over for supper last night. Pat, Bobby's step mother had the worst of it. She took Ashley to a soccer tournament yesterday afternoon and she isn't fully recovered
from a broken hip. She is being extremely helpful.

I experimented yesterday. I had a couple of white cake
mixes that need to be used up so I took one and added eggs
and oil as per the directions, then put in one fourth cup
of oatmeal, a cup of blueberries, a cup of walnuts and a
cup of raisens. It made enough for two loaves. If I make
it again, I would increase t he oil to half a cup but it
made a nice bread for breakfast and enough to send Bobby
a loaf.

The pollen and the wind have us all coughing. I didn't
sleep well last night and Ted didn't either as my coughing
disturbed him. Perhaps we can nap today.

I am in the process of changing over from Dish to Direct
tv. It will save 35 dollars a month the first year and I
changed insurance on the house and the car for a savings
of about 455 dollars a year. The county assessor has been
up to his old tricks of inflating the market value on every
one's house. I need to write a letter to the paper. Then
we could all chime in on these overvaluations and maybe
get it stopped. He is too lazy to look at it in depth. It
is easier just to go up about three thousand a year.

Ted has all the stuff to stream netflix to our tv but he
hasn't done it yet. It will be nice.

Happy Sunday!

The plants are a little ragged but they made it ok. A thunder storm
might bring a little rain with it.

With the collapsed real estate market nationwide, I'll bet every property is overvalued. I'd contest any increase. Saying a prayer for your little plants,

They seem to be standing up to the wind pretty well.

Ted isn't Mr. Technology but I think he is finally getting it right.

Weather wise we have been quiet.Hear that we are getting the run off from the storm out west or somewhere. They had some pretty severe ones.

How long is your growing season? We can plant early here but by August
everything pretty much frizzles out.

The worst of our storms has passed and I am actually getting the yard cleaned up. I never thought to use a cake mix to make bread. Will have to give that a shot.

It works with almost all combinations and you get two big loaves. I tried
it again with left over baked apples and it was even better.

I stream netflex to my computer, which is OK because I have a 17 inch monitor and it frees the TV for Donna to watch the women's channel while I watch Bear (Man V. Wild) with headphones. I know it can be streamed to WII and "other devices" but I didn't know that one of the devices is a TV. Worth investigating!

netflix has a device to stream it to the tv called Raku and it is very
inexpensive. I watch instantly on the computer because of the "man"
shows that Ted likes. Our tastes are wildly different.

Ed and I have been in this area since 2003 and we pay high taxes based on the buying price of our house. We are still "newcomers". People who have been here for 30 years pay almost nothing. Whenever there is a tax referendum, they always vote against the interests of the newcomers. I think I'll start asking people how long they've been here and if I get the wrong answer, just smack.

Write a letter to your county assessor and chew him out properly. House prices are going down instead of up. I think I will write to the newspaper.

Property taxes!! I intend to contest mine next year after we get settled in. That along with the homestead exemption should make the outrageous bill a little lighter and me a lot happier.

It does help to contest them. Maybe you need to write to the paper too because it simply is not fair to up taxes when the housing market is
down.

That storm caused 75 mph winds in Las Vegas and thunderstorms here last night, hope your plants get through it okay.
