Back to Real Life

We had a good time last night with family. Adrienne once
again will be a docent at the Science Museum. I asked her
why she didn't do the zoo instead. She replied, "Are You
Kidding, Grandma. Those kids have to work hard."

Ted has a giant wooden airplane lying on the guest bed. I
am not happy about this.

I went shopping this morning and was going to purchase a
few little things when I saw a fabulous full length mirror
on a wrought iron stand. Our old one was shedding gold
leaf so I bought the new one and will donate the old one
to Habitat for Humanity. That is all I bought except for
a white quilted jacket.

Our air went out last night but it is not too bad because
we have two units. The repair person said he would be
at our house Wed. morning.

We talked last night about a storm shelter. Both Bobby and
I want one and I am wondering if under the garage floor
might be the best option, the public shelters get so full.
It would be nice to have a place for important papers and
a change of clothing in case of an emergency. I will
wait until the furor dies down to think more about it.

A couple in Piedmont lost three of their children and they
have one in the hospital. One of the children was sucked
from his mother's arms. They found him nearly two miles
from home. He didn't survive. Joplin was hit so hard, even
worse than our May 3d storm.

Mother Nature is on the war path.

Did you see Sara Palin on the back of that motorcycle? How
Presidential!! I thought President Obama was warm and
comforting with the people of Joplin when he toured the
damage.

I guess Adrienne is thinking she'd have to clean out animal cages. I'm with her. Tragic about the mom. Would the storm shelter have enough room for you? It seemed like you were just talking about storage. Can't do anything below ground here -- there is no below ground -- just water. Ed wouldn't leave during the bad storm years -- 2004, 05, 06 -- our house is sturdy, we have storm shutters, etc. But the first year with Charlie, we really winged it. 60 feet of glass looking over the water and no shutters. And at the height of the storm, I was taking pix and Brunswick was running around oblivious. In his teeny mind, no thunder, no problem. I think Ed feels if he is here, nothing bad will happen to the house and his prized possessions. There's no logic to that.

Darn it! When I follow the links here to read posts I am never signed in. Then, after I sign in, I forget to come back to comment. I cannot imagine the anguish of a mother losing three children like that. How do we survive such tragedies?

Newsy, informative. What's wrong with a model airplane on the bed? Glue?

It is a huge wooden monster that I hate.

A friend told me that Midwest City was offering storm shelters through some government program. I'm not sure about the particulars and I think that window of opportunity has closed, but I'm going to check it out anyway.

Let me know. It sure would be nice to have one. Fema ought to help.

I think a storm shelter is a great idea, a safety bonus for any home. I wish I had close access to a community one from my apartment. Here in Northwest Ohio, yesterday we had six hours of tornado warnings, one after another, plus downpours and hail, as a super-charged front passed by. Several tornadoes were sighted and one touched down just to the north. Yikes!

If the weather is going to act up like this, then we need lots of community shelters. You got a sample of our weather. They need a public
shelter that will accomidate neighborhoods and are easy for everyone to
walk to.

Adrienne has the right idea! She should consider politics as a career.I think the reason we didn't lose more lives in the May 3rd tornado is because we had a lot of warning time. Also, it occurred in late afternoon when we could still see it approaching. I think the Joplin tornado hit after dark. The giant tornado that hit El Reno and Piedmont that killed the children you reference just missed much more heavily populated areas or the death toll would have been much higher.

I was renting to a couple who were working at Cracker Barrel when it got
blown away. They sheltered in the bathroom but their car was turned
upside down. That poor mother in Piedmont will never be the same.

Sarah Palin is making an entrance in our wonderful state in NH.

Fredo, she is an idiot. Is she going to be riding the motorcycle? John
McCain said she could win the election.

Wow how AWFUL to have your child ripped out of your arms due to weather. I can't even fathom it and I'm not a mom! Sad sad sad... I like adriennes comment, cracked me up!

It is just devastating to think that she couldn't have the strength to
hold him. She lost 3/4 of her family. It is unbearable.
