A Available Wife and Musings

First of all I have to tell you about the book, A Available
Wife by Robert Goolrick. It is a first novel and it is so
full of darkness, passion, deceit and Murder that it enthralls you and you have to read it in one setting. I
don't usually read books on the dark side but I am very glad
I read this one with all its twists and turns.

It is set in 1907 in Wisconsin in a small town where people
go mad from the eternal winter snow. The roads are impassable even for horses. Sex is the only amusement, but
this is not a vulgar book. The language is exquisite. He
writes like the Bronte sisters could have written if they
had been permitted to have real lives.

Secondly, I have been thinking how grateful I am for my
friendships with other women. I am losing two to dementia
and one who is moving to be with her children in Baltimore.
I have shared so much with them over the years. Someone
once told me that a sorrow shared is a sorrow halved and
a joy shared is a joy doubled. I will miss them greatly
and hopefully we will meet more people as time marches
ever so swiftly on.

We have ceiling fans on the back porch and the summer nights
are so peaceful with the breeze and the view over the
field behind us. It is such a pleasure to sit out there
with a glass of wine and watch the sun retreat.

I liked the ending of your "book", i.e., post. Wine and sunset!! I'm getting behind on my reading. Summertime does that.

Don't close your mind to this book because it is dark. It is well worth
it, especially now when there are so few really absorbing things written.

That book sounds interesting... Sorry about your friends, that is sad. This is a great saying, I like it a lot! "Sorrow shared is a sorrow halved and a joy shared is a joy doubled"

That book is wonderful and full of surprises. He has written a non fiction
book and I am going to look for it. The language is a treat.

It is so sad to lose friends. Yes, I hope new people enter your life and help to fill the void. That is something I need to do but have not invested much energy into. Fear of getting hurt, I guess, and mistrust.

It is sad to lose friends. Good women friends are such a blessing. We
don't get out much due to Ted's health and the fact that he is not nearly
as social as I am.

I am so glad you found that city house with some open space behind it so you didn't totally lose that country feel.

Yes, it is nice to have the open space. We have a lot of birds, blue
jays and sparrows and a pair of doves. I saw a scissor tail the other day.
This morning a little sparrow was feeding some of Rex's home made dog
biscuit to it's fledgling. They are attracted to Rex's water bowl.

It is so sad when we lose a friend; but hopefully two will take their place in your life. It is nice to sit outside with a cool breeze. Soon, it will not cool down enough to do even that, however.

I don't see how any woman gets by without a network of female friends.
It was 95 yesterday and soon the l00 degree weather will come but that
sure is better than cold.
