Assumming All Seniors Fell off the Turnip Truck

I know they have our demographics because I am constantly
getting calls offering personal assistance for my enfeebled
state, an assumption that I must be diabetic, that I must be in need of one of those wheel chairs that will swish you
around the Grand Canyon and other assistance. The wheel
chair thing burns me up because they say it may be our last
chance to get one at the expense of medicare. It speaks to
me of medicare fraud if one acquires a wheel chair just
because it may be needed later.

This morning I got a so called survey that offered me 2,000
in grocery vouchers if I would send them one dollar. When
I told them to take the dollar from the vouchers and only send l,999. dollars in vouchers the phone suddenly went
dead. Can you imagine how much money could be conned from
people if they got a dollar from everyone they called?

I find the ones who pray on the elderly and the poor, the
worst of all the con men. I just hope the l.00 scam doesn't
hurt too many people.

Now that I'm getting up there, I think today's senior citizens are more with it and younger looking. Look at pictures of regular folks taken in the 1950s even 30 year-olds looked like they were at least 50, and it was a combination of their hair, their glasses, their clothes, their body shapes. Grannies just don't look like grannies any more.

I think we are fiestier too. My grandmothers did very well but they were
old at sixty. Neither of them drove a car.

Quick thinking, Jerri! It certainly validates the scam in a hurry.

It was surprising how fast he got off the line. Those dollars mount up.

Door to door salesman don't even respect "No Solicitation" signs!

I don't have many door to door salesmen. I guess it is too cold, I
recently had a salesman for a local meat company and the meat is surprisingly good.

I'm with you and Teal. I guess it's because we're just "old folks"--young ones, at that.l I can easily take two stair steps at a time--running. Let's see a wheel chair do that!

I am proud of you Randy. I couldn't go upstairs two steps at a time. one maybe.

LOVE your answer to the voucher thing. The rest ---

I guess I am just frisky for my age but I really resent these kinds of
calls.

For the last 12 months or so, there has been an increase in the 'cold callers' in our area. These are the people who will come and knock at the door trying to get you to (for example) change your gas/electric/telephone/mobile (cell phone)/window glaxiers, suppliers. If I wanted, to change anything I would do it my self, without these peoples assistance - I have run out of patience with these people and they normally get short shrift from me. Sooooo annoying!

Instead of coming in person, our mailbox is flooded. I suppose it is too
cold to go door to door.

I also get literature from hearing aid outfits assuming I am deaf, and from senior communities, hoping I'll buy in for my end years. One place on the river is really beautiful but I learned that of their three levels of living, one independent, two assisted, three nursing home, THEY are the ones who decide when you will be bumped to the next level.

My irritation with those who raise money, particularly if they are for charities I support, is the stuff they send you -- key rings, address labels, tote bags, personalized note pads -- I don't need any of this stuff. Spend the money on the animals please.

The animal things really make me mad. I don't want them to spend what
money they get sending me items I don't need or want. I want them to use it for the animals themselves. I got a gorgeous calendar from a tiger refuge and it must have been very expensive to produce. I am wondering
about the big cats and how they are coping with the cold. It is so cold
here today that it hurts your face when you go outside.
