Brr!

It got down to ll degrees last night and this really hurts because of the warm days we had last week. We were supposed
to get snow but just got sprinkles of it. This was blow because it is so dry.

I made a huge pot of stew last night and in order to keep
from having to eat it forever, I gave Ellie half of it and
froze some for Ted. He loves stew and I do not but it is
alright on a cold winter's day.

I called a girl that I went to grade school and high school
with yesterday for an update on people we used to know.
It was an eyeopener because she told me she was alumni
president this year and it would be 65 years since we
graduated highschool. To her knowledge there are only 5
of us still living. There were two suicides in my small
highschool class. That was early on before the days of
antidepressants and I can't help but feel they could have
been saved if they had just hung on. I was close to both of
them. My highschool days were not my favorite times. Ted
loved his high school days and he keeps looking up old
friends and getting disillusioned.

A man came out and measured the house for carpet yesterday.
It will be two to three days of horrid upheaval. It will
be about two weeks before they start and I guess I need to
clear out closets and bric a brac gradually. Books are the worst.

Be sure to stay warm and dry.

Oh, goodness. This reminds me that I could think about losing some weight before the next class reunion. They get together every year around the first weekend in June. Last year our year (1969) combined with the 1950s and 1960s group because there are fewer of them all. A sure sign of oncoming age.

It amuses (and amazes) me that about a third of my high school class (of 180) don't give a hoot (never communicate or attend reunions), another third are heavily involved (email connections, never miss a reunion), and the rest are "half 'n half". I fall in the latter category.

Had only one close friend in high school. Have not seen nor heard from her since. She was one year ahead of me and now I can't even remember her last name. I knew hear because we were both in the band. She played clarinet, I played cornet. The rest are a blur. I remember friends from grammar school better. Gives you an idea of how dysfunctional HS was for me. Ed also always blethers about stew. He says HE'LL make it, by gum. But what he means is he'll put things in the pot if I buy the meat and veggies, peel and chop, etc. Sous chef, that's me. Then he uses the pressure cooker and what we get is PUREE.

It is not as if we were close friends, and last names have changed a lot for both of us but somehow we can find one another when needed for information.

We are so looking forward to 'the salad days' return Which wont be too long in arriving - the clocks will alter the month after next YaY!
I have a grandfather clock in my line of vision when I am here at my computer. It is secured to the wall so as to avoid any knocks from Chloe our Rottie. As it is 'secured', I never bother to change the 'time' when the clocks do their twice yearly 'change' (the mechanism is at the back), so right now the clock is 'fast' - roll on March, when it will be correct again
All my school friends are in London, so I have never kept in contact. It must be great to still be in touch.
The work you have to complete before the carpet fitters arrive will be draining on you so close to the recent Christmas festivities & before that the painting, but get a routine and make sure you allow time for 'resting' - if you feel too tired to do it - then leave it till you feel rejuvinated again. Your house will be looking sooooo smart when all is done

Fortunately, the men will move all the furniture but I have to clear the
closets and bric a brac and books. Two bookcases full. I stopped buying books with only a few exceptions about 20 years ago because of the difficulty of moving them. It is just so annoying to have to be in
turmoil.

Fredo, We are pretty perky for our age. I loved your post about what you want to do when Mike retires. That is the way to live.

Only 5 of you left??? Wow. You go girl! I see now why you keep pushing the library...

Yes, and three of them are invalids. I have moved books so many times. I
moved them all when I painted and put them back. I think the library is one of the greatest things ever.
