There was a chilling show on Animal Planet about people
who hoard animals. They just can't seem to stop. The one about tiger hoarding was the most interesting. This woman
could just not seem to stop when it came to tigers. She
allowed them to breed which was illegal and just kept getting more and more. You can imagine the difficulty of
obtaining food for them. They were in pens which is horrible for the tiger although they were kept clean and
well fed. There is no doubt that she had a special mystique
with the big cats. She could crawl in and get the cubs out
for supplementary feeding. Her lawyer had witnessed this
but she was so clever that the World Wildlife Association
spied on her but could never catch her with the cubs. They
finally found out from her orders of tiger milk on the inter
net.
It wasn't until a man was mauled cleaning cages that it
was brought to a halt. She was so in love with the thought
that she could breed them and zoos often failed to do so
that she was a little crazy. Ultimately, it ended in tragedy for her and the tigers.
The next concerned wolf hybreds. A woman, who was in love
with Native American culture, wanted to walk with wolves.
She ended up bonding with a man who claimed to be a Lakota-
Sioux medicine man. Ted and I doubted his heritage because
he had blue eyes and not one single Native American feature.
He dressed in animal skins and conducted sweat lodges. He
broke with her because she had established a pack of these
half wolf-half dog hybrids and didn't establish dominance
over the pack. They eventually tore her apart and had to
be put down.
The World Wildlife Association said that the mixed breed
was more dangerous than wolves would have been. They stated
that if you bred a retriever and a working dog that they
would be a difficult dog to live with because their instincts conflicted.
This was a difficult show to watch but it was very interesting. Human behavior and animal behavior have always
fascinated me.
