Anatomy of Gray

We saw a play last night at the University of Oklahoma theater entitled, "Anatomy of Gray". It was funny and sad and a glimpse into the past. The whole town was dying of typhoid fever and they had no idea what was making them sick. The set was minimalist in the extreme but the acting was so good that you soon forgot that the only props were two straight chairs and two wooden boxes.

We were late getting our seasons tickets so didn't have our same seats this year. Ours were equally good but we missed the two ladies we normally sat beside. They are getting so frail and one is barely getting around with a walker. Her father was one of O. U.'s early professors. My stepfather played on the O. U. football team in 1918. The university is a rich source of entertainment with plays, operas, dance
and art galleries. Not to mention football.

The weather here is so beautiful. Balmy fall days with almost no wind and temperatures in the high seventies. I only wish that this beloved season were not so short. Alas, winter is lurking around the cornor.

I know it is smarter to keep the house at 62F in winter. Last year I pushed it up to 64 because both I and the bird were shivering. He was fluffed up in all his feathers, and I had on four layers on top and three on the bottom. Let me just say, winter is hard on people with degenerative joint diseases. Heat will cost so much more this year. I'm worried, but plan to bundle up and grit my teeth and save the money.I can only hope George Bush will be cold somewhere. And if God is good Ms. Palin will be home in Alaska, watching out for the Russians. Whom she can see from her back porch in Anchorage. With a telescope.

I prefer the spring, but also love the autumn. Winter this year is suppose to be colder than usual. Take in a play for me ok?

I'll bet Christmas hardly seems like Christmas when the weather is balmy. Just think..tiny heating bills.

Fall is such a gloriously beautiful season- like an artist gone wild with the paint brush.

Yes, the cold winters got to me in NY. But I find I miss the change of seasons. Yes, it chills out here during the winter months, sometimes getting into the low forties overnight, but no fall foliage, no snow, no nippy nose mornings. Sigh.

The weather here is more stable now. I have been able to keep my windows open much of the day and so enjoy the freshness.

Lurking is right...and ready to pounce! I have a Navajo willow that has dropped almost all of its leaves in the past few days. But I've got plenty of firewood and we're going to try to run the furnace less than last winter. That'll mean sweaters on in the house but so what?
