This and That

We finally got a rain last night and I slept right through
it. When I got up and put Rex out, it was too muggy to walk
so I guess I will have to hit the treadmill.

I will be picking up the girls tonight and I am looking forward to seeing them every day. Even the Drama Queen.
Rex adores them. I wish they would spend more time with him.

Our backyard opens on to a baseball field for the private school on the corner. Last night we sat on the back porch and
watched a hilarious game of T ball. The toddlers...they can't
be more than four were decked out in pink helmets and black
helmets and frequently ran back to third base instead of
first base. Everytime they reached first base there was an
adult there to give them a high five. Rex stood at the fence and barked intermittently, adding to the general confusion.
All of the little ones had a good experience because they were rewarded with praise and high fives.

Ted is having a hard time coping with his grief over losing
Dallas. They were very good friends. I think he would
feel a lot better if he would talk about it more instead
of moping but everyone has to deal with it in their own
way.

Maybe Ted is not just grieving Dallas. Between his age and his recent stroke, he may well also be grieving for himself too. I know I sure don't deal well thinking about my own eventual demise.

It does make you confront your own mortality. Dallas never had to be sick
or suffer and that is a dynamite way to go.

It probably would have been better for Ted if there had been a funeral so he would feel that Dallas had a send off and the lunch afterward is always the opportunity to gather oneself for moving on. Yes, funerals are sad, but they serve a purpose.

Dallas was an agnostic and they plan to have a celebration of his life at
his favorite museum on the 27th. Ruth has asked us to go and stay with her
but Ted doesn't think he can face it. It will be a party just as Dallas
wanted and I think he ought to perk up and go.

That's so hard for Ted... I am glad he is at least feeling better now....
And Rex is a hoot... maybe you should encourage the kids to play hide and seek with Rex or something that they'll all enjoy!

Rex loves kids, the smaller the better. We are always entertained by them
and Rex.

My sympathies to Ted. Maybe there's a mutual friend of theirs he could share some of his thoughts with. (Kisses to Rex.)

That is why I think he should go to the party. They are having a military service in the morning and I know he needs to skip that. Taps breaks me
down even when I am not close to the person. I know Dallas would have
liked his ashes to be buried in a National cemetary.
