Ben Affleck

Guess I'm disgusted with everything today.

Ben Affleck can claim he's living on $1.50 a day when he stops paying any and all mortgages, rents, and automatic payments and IS actually living on just $1.50 a day. Or else it could be valid if he forsakes living in any of those properties on which he is paying a rent or mortgage and just lives on the street. Otherwise, the prorated cost of his multimillion-dollar-mortgage goes into what he is living on for those 5 days.

Most celebrities are inept in their good works but I guess that's better than doing nothing at all. I do think, however, that they should concentrate on this country. We have a lot of poor now, more than before. How about shining the spotlight on them?

I think I just hate celebrities. Maybe that's it.

I think that shallow celebrities who go to Africa should tend to the poverty
at home. Minimum wage here is difficult to live on and we have our share of
homelessness and poverty right here. Of course that doesn't generate
publicity but I believe that charity really does begin at home. grr!

I didn't like Affleck before and this doesn't change my mind.

He is talking about living on $1.50 a day of FOOD!

You know, I didn't think this one through before I posted. His idea is still, however, stupid. Food is easily obtained here.

He's publicizing hunger in Africa. Wouldn't it be so much nicer if he could take up a cause that would make people aware that the minimum wage in the United States is not a living wage?

I agree with you, it's a silly publicity stunt. More correctly, it's EATING on $1.50 a day, not LIVING, because food is all they considering. I like that part about 'it's okay to use food you produced yourself as long as you deduct the cost of production from the $7.50.' Gardening may be rewarding for fresher vegetables, but it's not cheap. Now I'm disgusted, too.

Look I really don't understand picking on people who are trying to make a point--more people will be aware just because of the publicity he is getting--yes we know he won't actually do it and he will be taking a hot shower every night and his wife and kids will have their Filet Mignon but give the guy credit for at least making the problem PUBLIC and maybe, just maybe, a politician may do something--yes it is possible--not probable but possible.
